From Fundamentalist Baptist to Catholic – Steve Wilson’s Story
http://www.catholic-convert.com/ ^ | February 26, 2015 | Steve Wilson

Posted on 03/01/2015 4:54:44 PM PST by NKP_Vet

Archbishop Fulton Sheen once wrote: “There are not over a hundred people in the United State who hate the Roman Catholic Church; there are millions, however, who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church.”

I was one of those who hated because of what I wrongly believed about the Catholic Church. The reason I had these beliefs was due to being told what to believe about the Catholic Church from those who were told what to believe about the Catholic Church. No one was willing to find out what the bottom line was concerning the Catholic Church. Everything said about the Church was taken as truth while it seemed no one was delving into what the truth really was.

What about these Catholics? They worshipped Mary. They had a religion but not a relationship with Jesus Christ. They said they believed in God but really their belief couldn’t be the same, could it? The Bible says in James 2:19 KJV “Thou believest that there is one God; Thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble”.

So do Catholics have a belief such as the devils? When most Catholics are asked if they have been “born again” or “have accepted Christ as their Savior”, their main response is “I believe in God” or “I am a good person”, or “I’m Catholic”. Also, they have all these rituals, Saints, Statues and what about the Pope is he really standing in for God? Another big item, are they cannibals when they eat the bread and drink the wine during communion? Why do they leave Jesus on the cross, don’t they realize Jesus has risen from the dead?

The invention of the printing press had NOTHING to do with it! It was all due to releasing the grip of Rome!

yeah....right...

Not quite. There are hundreds of millions of validly baptized people who are not members of the Catholic Church.

I never denied that...they were baptized Catholic...nothing else possible...and they choose to follow another Christian denomination.....but they were all once Catholic.....you can't be Baptized Lutheran.....doesn't work that way.

Jesus said, This is my flesh, but it wasn't...It was bread...

you're right....it was bread, right up until the moment when God said "THIS IS MY BODY"...Then it was His Body.....do you question His ability to do that???

Amazing the way the haters on here question the knowledge of Christian theology of a Catholic priest.

>Once a "Catholic priest" posts a comment that says that Protestants give birth to babies around Christmas time so that they can eat them--all credibility is lost.<

Makes you wonder what catholic priests are taught in seminary. Wonder if this goes up the line to the pope?

Yours is the only religion that has apologetics courses for its people...Are those courses for the purpose of defending the scriptures???

Yes, and they work quite well....the reason that protestant denominations do not have apologetic courses is that it is impossible to defend erroneous misinterpretation of the truth.....impossible.

Sorry, you both are wrong. They're baptized into the family of God. No denomination.

Actually Christian churches do have apologetics courses. At the seminary I’m taking lasses you can get a concentration in apologetics.

>>Who are these non-denominational Christians for two-thousand years? What is their history - your shared non-denominational history.<<

History? We have scripture. The very words of God. What more is there to keep track of? We give glory to God alone, not some fake lineage of man.

Yet you still cast stones at each other.

You must learn to discern the difference between stones and snowballs....there is very little animosity on these threads, just a lot of misinformation and attempts to set people straight.....soon they all return to the fold,...Christ said so.(remeember the prodigal son....he thought he was right when he left....he wasn't....and he returned)

>>They have this convenient little escape clause called "Tradition" and the "magesterium". It allows them to claim they don't NEED something to be in the Scripture in order for them to both believe it is part of the Christian faith and mandate to ALL that they have to believe it, too. Nice, huh?<<

It's called a cult. The more I learn the more I'm convinced.

Oh but they do. It's called scripture. Only cults add to that. Mormons, Muslims, Catholics, those types.

We are commanded to be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, not in the name of the Catholic church.

That would be correct...however, when we are baptized, we are baptized into the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Christian Church.....for 1,600 years no one argued that fact....they still can't. You can certainly be validly Baptized in another Christian church building, but you are being baptized Catholic....impossible for any other result.

Catholicism is the only complete and absolutely Christian church on Earth....other denominations aren't necessarily bad, just in error or incomplete...you are Baptized Catholic and then are either raised in another denomination or leave on your own accord....

Hey, terycarl. You need to straighten the priest out. He thinks that there are Catholics who are not Christians

Not at all....you can be a Christial and not a Catholic...you cannot be a Catholic and not a Christian...

You can be a bad Catholic and a Bad Christian, you can be a bad Baptist and a Bad Christian If you are validly baptized you are both a Christian and a Catholic....how good is up to you.

“Ask your fellow Catholics if they believe in what the Bible has recorded.”

The Bible, yes. Your misinterpretation that even most other Protestants don’t believe, no.

Do you believe the Roman Catholic baptisms of Franco, Mussolini, and Hitler accomplished anything for them? They didn’t exactly exhibit the winsome work of the Holy Spirit now did they?

Freed them from original sin....they were nice little babies....what they did with their lives is what we all do, make decisions, some good, some bad, and live out our lives as such. All are accountable in the end....I don't want to be any of them.

“I suppose you would have to define what Protestant means to you.”

Gee, thanks, Bill Clinton for your opinion about the word “is”.

“To most people it would mean they align or belong to one of the Protestant organizations. I don’t.”

On doctrines, you do.

“If we wanted to play loose with terminology I suppose that given the Catholic Church claims they and the Muslims serve the same god would that make you a Muslim or them Catholics?”

Or Jews, right? Since, after all, all three profess to believe in the God of Abraham. See, not even your example makes sense.
