A Protestant Historian Discovers the Catholic Church by A. David Anders, Ph.D.
I grew up an Evangelical Protestant in Birmingham, Alabama. My parents were loving and devoted, sincere in their faith, and deeply involved in our church. They instilled in me a respect for the Bible as the Word of God, and a desire for a living faith in Christ. Missionaries frequented our home and brought their enthusiasm for their work. Bookshelves in our house were filled with theology and apologetics. From an early age, I absorbed the notion that the highest possible calling was to teach the Christian faith. I suppose it is no surprise that I became a Church historian, but becoming a Catholic was the last thing I expected.
My familys church was nominally Presbyterian, but denominational differences meant very little to us. I frequently heard that disagreements over baptism, the Lords Supper, or church government were unimportant as long as one believed the Gospel. By this we meant that one should be born again, that salvation is by faith alone, and that the Bible is the sole authority for Christian faith. Our church supported the ministries of many different Protestant denominations, but the one group we certainly opposed was the Catholic Church.

“A mighty bold claim for a one-eyed fat man.”
Looking in the mirror again?
“Where’s the beef?”
Still on the cow.
I read where you posted that some guy made a claim about what the word meant...That's certainly not evidence...
“I read where you posted that some guy made a claim about what the word meant...That’s certainly not evidence...”
That’s not all I posted. But it doesn’t surprise me that you would falsely say so.
Right here...
1Jn_2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
Now that ought to shut you up but I have a feeling it won't...
Sola scriptura works as long as you're not in disagreement with some other autodidact with his own sola scriptura quotes. Then, you're not a church. You're just a mob of angry, disjointed, disconnected experts arguing about doctrine. What is it, three or four hundred different churches of scriptural experts?
Did you learn that from reading the bible, or listening to your religion...We all know the answer to that...
You may indeed believe that's what Christ wanted his Church to become, a divided, polemical, angry, mess without doctrine or love.
Would seem to me that if you really knew Jesus, you'd want to know what he says about things...And no, Jesus has no intention of dividing his church...But he does want to get those of his church out from under the bondage of false religions with false doctrines...
Luk_12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
Joh_7:43 So there was a division among the people because of him.
Why would I fight with God...I thank God for giving me the scriptures to know who I am supposed to stay away from...Be divided from...
We post the scriptures that prove ROME does interpret them wrongly...And then you get angry at us for posting the scriptures...
We just don't have enough love to sit by while false gospels and false doctrines are being preached...Shame on us...
So God let his Church flounder 1500 years or 2000 or so until you came to the rescue. Lucky for all of us, I’d say that your superior skill were there to fix his errors and neglect.
This Catholic babe most assuredly did NOT hear that in his Methodist Mom’s arms.
What is your religion? Are you one of the four or five hundred Protestant faiths? If so, God bless you just the same. I hope you can find it in your heart to be Christian towards others.
I believe Elsie belongs to the Pentacostal Evangelical Assembly of Pot Stirrers. (PEAPS)
Or Protestant Evangelical Obnoxious Dividers of Christians - PEODOCs.
And who would know that, other than God?
99% of the food on the buffet table was fine.
There just seemed to be a wee bit of a problem with punch pollution.
Christian.
But, since you probably won't be happy with that, I'll also tell you I attend a church of the Wesleyan denomination.
Have at it.
Beats belonging to the Church of Our Lady of the Perpetual Headache.
And who would know that, other than God?
Huh?
Wow..for a minute there, I thought you were referring to yourself.
Go figure.
But Christian theology is not something that is blindly accepted any more than Hinduism, Buddhism, or Islam can be blindly accepted as a “spiritual event.”
As Benedict XVI explained in his famous Regensburg address, Catholicism is braided by both faith and reason. When a parade of prominent Protestant theologians, authors, and preachers head for the exits based on their lifetime research and scholarship, then the center collapses, and Protestantism collapses into the anarchy of the individual. We have seen this Joel Osteen, David Koresh, Jim Jones, Billy Graham, Joseph Smith, Martin Luther, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and the list continues.
Opening stanza of William Butler Yeatss poem The Second Coming,
“Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the center cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.
The SDA's base their false teachings about the Catholic Church on a book "written by" that plagiarist prophetess (Ellen G. White) called "The Great Controversy", which is chock full of errors and lies (which, of course, all come from the father of lies), and was based extensively on other plagiarized sources (as can be read about here).
(To plagiarize something involves both stealing and lying. Satan fathered those lies, and he continues to make extensive use of those same lies, and many people foolishly continue to believe those lies.)
Those falsehoods are what the SDA's base those false beliefs on, and anyone (like yourself) can defend those false beliefs over, and over, and over again, as much as they want, but they will still be wrong every single time.
