January is a time of year when the pro-life spotlight shines especially bright.
In an ironic coincidence, last month’s commemorations marking Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, the landmark Supreme Court decisions that legalized abortion in 1973, coincide with Girl Scout cookie season in most areas of the country. This iconic organization and its fundraising product has become an increasing flashpoint for pro-lifers, as more and more become aware of the numerous concerns regarding the Girl Scout organization.
In January 2014, numerous pro-life groups organized a “cookiecott” that garnered significant media attention. Given the public’s increasing awareness and response to these concerns, one might reasonably assume that Girl Scouts USA would move away from the controversy. Instead, the organization continues to involve its members in abortion advocacy and promote women and organizations that advocate for abortion rights. Examples since 2014’s Cookiecott include:

Hate to say it folks
I was Brownie yeah after learning all that when I got older I am so embarrased
Homemade cookies for me.
Hey, if y’all are looking for some good organizations to support that reach kids with strong Christian values, check out TraillifeUSA.com and American Heritage Girls at ahgonline.org.
These are truly great alternatives to the big groups that have lost their way and sold out their legacy.
My troop just started selling Trail Life USA chocolate bars and they are great.
We’re selling at a gun show this weekend (Bel Air, MD)
Okay - explain that to the girls ....their understanding.
They are showing “concern”. So glad they stepped up. SMH
It’s enough to make you want to toss your cookies!!!
Girl Scouts is a real, national organization. They don’t have local charters owned by groups like the VFW, Catholic Church, LDS church, etc.
BSA is a national organization, but the actual charters are owned by local chartering organizations. Part of member dues go to national, but the bulk of it goes to the Council.
When the BSA sells popcorn, 70 percent stays in the council, with 50 percent, or more depending on the Council, goes to the Troop.
When the GSA sells cookies, 10 percent stays with the Troop, the rest is national. There isn’t a ‘local’ GSA entity - it’s all national.
With Gates, for now at least, the homo thing is at an end. National is going to let the issue die, for now at least.
For most of us, its a deal breaker, and I think they know it. They took a 12 percent hit in membership, but their numbers are telling them it wasn’t the homo thing, but the molester thing, and they don’t think the two are connected.
Talk about institutional blindness.
As such, when you buy a box of GSA cookies, you really are supporting national. They sell a ton of cookies, so the 10 percent is significant to the kid, who uses it to go to camp and such.
When you buy BSA popcorn, 30 percent goes to the manufacturer of the popcorn, and 70 goes to the Council. 0 goes to national. Most of the 70 goes to the Packs and Troops. Cub Scouts are the ones that get hurt the most on a popcorn boycott. Individual cubs. By far, they sell more popcorn than the Boy Scouts do.
The issue did not die for the BSA, they hired a pro-homo as their leader and that is not going to be the end of it
“Kid, part of the money from those cookies goes to an organization that chops up babies inside their mommies and then pulls out the pieces.
I can't buy your cookies.”
It's really simple, and there is zero morally gray area.
There are plenty of other brands of cookie.
Depends on the mom. One particularly pushy mom came up to me as I was walking past their table leaving the supermarket and asked me straight up "Aren't you going to buy our cookies?" I responded, "No, thank you." She then got huffy and said "Well, why not?" I responded to her, "Sorry, but I don't buy Planned Parenthood cookies." She then yelled, "Oh, we're not associated with them at all!" I responded, "You're either extremely ignorant, or a liar," and walked away.
Me too.
Okay - so don’t buy them, don’t even have to approach them to tell them you won’t buy them ... I mean, I can get chocolate mint cookies anywhere ....
I don’t approach them.
But if they come to my door, or accost me in a crowded place I explain to them straight up what’s wrong with what they are involved in.
Then it’s up to the kid what they think about it.
I will point three things out about this that are evidently beyond your compression.
1. Nothing I am saying here is a lie.
2. The kids will someday find out what they were part of. If the leadership or their parents try to blow this off when the kids want it explained, it will make it clear to the kids when they are grown that the adults actively supported paying for abortions with the cookie money. Instead of...say paying for camp outs and crafts.
3. It is proper for these kids to understand that about their parents. And use that information in setting boundaries in their future adult relationships.
I am not throwing out some thoughtless, judgmental quip.
Nor am I stalking kids to pound them over the head with this.
You can support abortion or make excuses for slaughtering unwanted babies all you want.
I won’t join you.
Love it! Great response.
I have Girl Scouts in my neighborhood and I have bought cookies from them for years. It will be difficult to stop.
Obviously you don’t know anything about me and that I DO NOT SUPPORT ABORTION!!!!!!!! GOT IT!!!!
They are delicious
