Archbishop from San Salvador was 'killed in hatred of the Faith', says Vatican
Archbishop Oscar Romero has been declared a martyr by the Pope.
A statement released by the Vatican today confirmed a previous ruling that the archbishop from San Salvador was killed in hatred of the Faith.
Pope Francis met with Cardinal Angelo Amato SDB, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, at the Vatican today and during this meeting the Pontiff authorised the Congregation to promote the decree regarding Archbishop Romero.
The statement confirmed that Pope Francis recognised the martyrdom of the Servant of God Oscar Arnolfo Galdámez Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador; born August 15, 1917 in Ciudad Barrios (El Salvador) and killed in hatred of the Faith, March 24, 1980, in San Salvador (El Salvador).
Plans for Archbishop Romeros beatification will be discussed in a media briefing at the Vatican tomorrow, according to reports.
Archbishop Romero was assassinated while serving Mass in El Salvador in 1980 by Right-wing death squads. His murder came a day after he had said in a homily that soldiers should obey Gods commands and put down their guns.

Golly gee! How long until we can pray to this dead human instead of Jesus? *pant, pant*
This Pope is deeply into Liberation Theology.
He is not over the line yet. Romero was a martyr but not to the True Faith. He is not a Saint.
Please don’t buy into the idea that Romero was just a liberal. He was devoted to the Rosary and quite traditional in his beliefs and practices. He led a penitential life, preached the Church’s FULL teaching on sexual morality and was brave, knowing his words would eventually mean his death. The Left in the Church try to scrub people like Romero, John XXIII, and Dorothy Day of their many conservative qualities. Don’t buy into it.
Francis, then Bergoglio, condemned Liberation theology.
God is the God of the Living, not the dead.
Francis, then Bergoglio, condemned Liberation theology.
I remember that.
“...pray to dead human...”
It seems that you don’t read your bible.
Mark 12:27.
Also: Faith justifies us. The justified go to heaven and are alive. So what is with the dead human comment?
On topic: the catholic liberation theology subscribers were skating on thin ground as socialism has strong leanings towards communistic atheism and substitutes the power of the collective and the state for the power of God.
Only God judges of course, and I have no idea where Romero stood on the spectrum, however I do know that John Paul II was gravely concerned about the Central American liberation theology movement as leaning towards atheism.
The leftists Catholics have to be handled carefully due the secular humanistic tendencies of the communist worker type movements. Dorothy Day had an abortion and Thomas Merton had an affair. Complete conversions occur, of course, with complete repentance; St. Augistine; however there has to be proof that the future saint lived an exemplary life after their conversion and changed their ways.
Dorothy Day was a lifelong, unrepentant Communist.
Thank you.
BTTT!
St. Augistine is supposed to be St. Augustine
“...Dorothy Day was a lifelong unrepentant Communist...”

Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin were unrepentant communist agitators, community organizers even after Dorothy’s “conversion”. Dorothy espoused the Third Hour ecumenical group that implied universal salvation and syncretism.
Dorothy Day adhered to the un catholic liberation theology view that salvation can be achieved just by living with the poor. She was headed down the wrong path towards the view that we are justified by works alone (not faith and works). This Pope seems to be going in this fatal universal salvation direction as well.
A true communist can never be a true Catholic.

If it is true that he condemns liberation theology, then why has he written the preface to Cardinal Gerhard Müller's book, "Poor for the Poor: The Mission of the Church", which PROMOTES liberation theology?

Waited all weekend to spew your antiCatholic garbage...how patient of you...please go back under your rock.
Sure he is..Catholicism is, of course the true faith, and when one dies defending that faith, the church declares that the person goes directly to Heaven...therefore a saint....see how easy it is when you pay attention???

It’s very true what you say of Romero.
Please don't tell me that there are no communists in Heaven.....
