If you enjoy Julian Fellowes’ work, you may enjoy “Monarch of the Glen,” which he wrote and in which he plays a significant role. It’s on Netflix.

I love Downtown Abbey. It’s a wonderful series. I haven’t missed an episode. And I have the first four seasons on DVD.

Someone has spent a great deal of brain time on what is essentially a period piece, costume eye-candy, soap opera.

It’s fun TV, but really.

I’ve never really seen the appeal. I do like Maggie Smith but the other characters are depressingly predictable and two dimensional. I like the costumes and the setting. Otherwise yawn.

Yes, really? With something like “Black Mirror”, which is on netflix deserves an article like that.

It’s Dallas and Dynasty set in the British countryside. Soap opera, to be sure, but I’ve been enjoying it.

And prior to DA, Fellows wrote the movie “Gosford Park” of a similar theme.
Good array of Brit actors in that movie though it was directed by Robt Altman....good Novello music in it too.

...costume eye-candy.

I went to Winterthur in Delaware to see Downton Abbey costumes. The ones worn by Michele Dockery looked like rags without her in them. She is a knockout.

It’s a great series, and I think this will probably be the last season. It will probably bring us to the start of WWII, but times are already changing in England at that point and WWII finishes it.

Great writing and a lot of moral value. But it’s not saccharine... I love the way the author shows the evil, snake-like Thomas always coming out on top - a truly Catholic story - because the Devil always looks after his own.

If you want to see a good series about religious life in England right after the WW2 check out this one. It’s about nuns, Anglican nuns. But back then Anglicans were almost identical to Catholics. By the way Britain makes much better movies that Hollywierd.

As have we all. I remember her from a couple movies from the eighties, I think. I noticed then that she was pretty, yet interesting looking. Its amazing to see an aging actress
face not shot full of botox, collagen and whatever else they do. I applaud her. Ani I love the series.

I disagree about this being the last season. Time has slowed down considerably by the writers in recent years and the current season is 1924. I don't see how they advance the story up to 1939 this season.

The major pending story hook is the potential re-marriage of Mary to one of the two suitors. We might see a resolution of this matter this season to conclude the season. I have no idea and this is merely a guess on my part, no spoilers intended.
