If people didn’t go to Mass this morning or at noon — they still can go tonight. It IS a Holy Day of Obligation!

8. How do we celebrate the Immaculate Conception today?

In the Latin rite of the Catholic Church, December 8th is the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, and it is a holy day of obligation.

In the United States, the obligation to attend Mass exists even though it immediately follows a Sunday this year.

The Immaculate conception gave us God's greatest gift to mankind, Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas!

Telling that not a single inspired verse God gave us supports this belief.

492 The “splendour of an entirely unique holiness” by which Mary is “enriched from the first instant of her conception” comes wholly from Christ: she is “redeemed, in a more exalted fashion, by reason of the merits of her Son”. The Father blessed Mary more than any other created person “in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places” and chose her “in Christ before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before him in love”.

The father has blessed US who are His, not only Mary. Here's what those verses say - and they are NOT specifically or solely about Mary:

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonshipc through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:3-14)

There’s some verse in St. Paul where he doesn’t refer to Mary, and actually he’s not talking about Mary at all, but it totally destroys everything Jimmy Akin said.

Thanks for posting this.

I did not know this is what is meant by Immaculate Conception.

It’s quite heretical, maybe even blasphemous.

Very clever but scripturally twisted fantasy.

“Christ is thus the New Adam, and Mary the New Eve”

I’m not sure anyone would even want to comment on that.

Luk 11:27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

Luk 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Thats Jesus talkin’.

**491 Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, “full of grace” through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses, as Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854:**

I’m curious to know what pope Pius was smokin when he uttered that nonsense.

So....somehow Mary escaped the sinful nature of her parents?

Oh, they were sinless as well?? (I think I’ve heard that excuse before)

Maybe the pope should declare that Mary’s grandparents, great grandparents, and great great grandparents were somehow sinless as well, just to play it safe.

And let the pope speak this declaration in his best Yul Brynner impersonation:

“So let it be written,.........so let it be done!”

One of the guys in our Bible Study was raised Catholic. It’s been very enlightening going through Luke 1-2 with him.
