Bowing to PC and politics. Doesn’t sound like a religious leader; more like a local politician
How did this guy ever get to be a Cardinal. If they had the rank of sparrow, that would be more appropriate. Yes, he does sound more like a politician.
He is correct on one regard about women priests though, it is not a matter of faith, it is a matter of church policy which is subject to change, matters of faith are not.
Lastly, why do these guys go on these shows anyway. Does any of them yet know they are not their friends or friends of the church. They are there to stir up controversy.
I don’t know much about this O’Malley guy, but I think you might be miss-reading. Us, in our fallibility, would do things different than what the Lord did, but we’d do well to obey God’s clear teaching.
Of course, after reading the article, yes, he is saying he could do it better than Jesus.
Perhaps you should re-read ORDINATIO SACERDOTALIS by St. JPII.
In the Apostolic Letter Mulieris Dignitatem, I myself wrote in this regard: “In calling only men as his Apostles, Christ acted in a completely free and sovereign manner. In doing so, he exercised the same freedom with which, in all his behavior, he emphasized the dignity and the vocation of women, without conforming to the prevailing customs and to the traditions sanctioned by the legislation of the time.”(5)

“...it is not a matter of faith”
Yes it is.
“...it is a matter of church policy”
Church policy based on faith that the Bible offers the best practice.
“..which is subject to change, matters of faith are not.”
Can’t change the policy unless you lose faith in inerrancy.
Ok, go find one somewhere...because you have surely lost your own.
What person in the NT had the first gathering of what could be constituted a church?
My wife as a DRE and Confirmation Director has a better explanation to the teens when teaching on this subject. She tells them to focus on the things they “CAN” do versus the things they “CANT” do and let God handle the rest. This really resonates with the young women.
Someone should tell Sean we have had women priests—you know, the faggots who were diddling little boys.
Also, Sean read this: http://leomcneil.net/2014/11/17/lumbersexuals-your-beard-doesnt-make-you-masculine/
Does the good Cardinal believe he is equal to Christ?
His only failing was that he was born 2 thousand years too late to do it right.
Good question.
I saw that piece and it appeared to me that O’Malley is a bleeding heart liberal and maybe even plays for the other team.
Blech.........
Oh good grief! Not to your comment, but to O’Malley.
I used to really struggle with this, but I am getting more comfortable. It may be a little cynical to say, but maybe men need the priestly vocation more than women do. God tends to call people, not only for what he needs them to do, but also to help them grow towards Him. Like St. Peter, who needed to become a better man, and also was needed to lead the flock.
Most women get a monthly reminder to stay humble, and that God is in charge. Also, pregnancy is a process that offers themselves up for service in the cause of life-giving. Maybe some men particularly need to know that God is in charge, and they are supposed to serve, with reverence. So they consecrate hosts and baptize, etc.
it’s true, as the Cardinal said, that if he were doing it, he could come up with a nice little religion. It just wouldn’t be real, and Jesus would have no interest in it. Our trade off is that we go for real, tangible evidence of Christ among us, and live with some unanswered questions.
I think that the point he is trying to make is that the decision to reserve the priesthood to men was by God and not by human reasoning.
why not ask them to think logically.
IF there were to be priestesses, wouldn’t Christ have ordained His own Mother, who is without sin- first ?
