Will the real Joel Osteen please stand up?
October 28, 2014
Joel Osteen, Pastor of the biggest congregation in America, Lakewood Church, appears to be an Obama fan, despite the fact that Obama's agenda goes against everything true Christians believe. Those of us who are intelligent and observant were not really surprised, as we have known for a long time that Osteen's I'm okay, you're okay milk toast sermons are far from Bible-based and do not reflect in any way the beliefs of his father, John Osteen, who started Lakewood Church and preached the uncompromising message of Christ for multiple decades before his death in 1999. Joel Osteen, however he may have started out, is currently nothing more than a progressive in Christian's clothing.

“Lot of jealousy on this thread...”
Jealousy is not the correct word, why would anyone be jealous of Osteen. The people who do not agree with his prosperity, soft gospel, never mentioning sin, or explaining how a person must be born again, see through him and fear others may suffer as a conscience. I don’t know how many Osteen supporters are on FR but you need to look at the teaching of Christ and see if they are in agreement with Mr. Osteen.
I find your comments destructive and hollow. God would NOT be pleased with a man who works to destroy someone who actually serves God. Religious intolents are those who are legalistic, and not enjoying the Grace God gave them.
Are you aware that GRACE IS UNDESERVED FAVOR. You are a sinner, and have no business condemning anyone else. You are not perfect and neither is any other Christian, shame on you hypocrite!
I am going to ask you one question! When has Osteen ever taught about the consequences of sin and stated without Christ in your heart there is no hope for eternal life, and explained how a person can accept Christ and be forgiven for his sins. You show me one example and I will stop my Osteen rants. Sure it is good to get encouragement for a better life, but first a person has to acknowledge they are a sinner and repent and accept Christ’s forgiveness before God can bless them.
Taking a fragment of Scripture out of context seems to be the Osteen method.
What else does Scripture say?
1Corintians 5:11But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindlernot even to eat with such a one. 12For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13God judges those outside. Purge the evil person from among you.
Matthew 7:15
A Tree and Its Fruit
Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
Sounds like judging to me.
The real Joel Osteen is a con-man who will say whatever he thinks will be popular, he stays away from controversy except to support Obama apparently
“I’m Joel Osteen
“I’m the real Joel Osteen
“All y’all other Joel Osteens
“Are just kinda boastin’
“So will the real Joel Osteen please stand up
“Please stand up
“Please stand up...”
Just for the heck of it, I read some of those threads to see what they were about.
Only the words change.
He NEVER preaches any other message. It’s all feely good pablum couched in variations of English.
God tells us to judge.
We are to test the spirits to see if they are from God. We are to judge with righteous judgment. We are to be aware of false prophets and that we will know them by their fruit. That requires making judgments about others.
For that matter, determining that someone is a Christian and doing good is also making a judgment. So those who are supporting Osteen have judged him and found him acceptable, but they have still judged him.
Nobody can escape making judgments on others, ever.
That verse in Matthew 7 has got to be one of the most misapplied verses in all the Bible.
God did not give us His word to manipulate others with.
“God did not give us His word to manipulate others with.”
That is one of truest statements I have heard. And God is the one who knows the contributions made by Pastors...There is a scripture that also talks about ‘How blessed you are when others curse you and oppose you’.....the same with ‘beware when others call you blessed.’
In the last days they will call evil good and good evil. You see religious dogmatics spend their lives condemning others......
People make mistakes when they are nervous and I believe Osteen did that in a couple of interviews.....but he is a believer in you must believe in JESUS to have salvation.
Let’s point out something it would be wise for the legalizers to remember...the thief on the cross, all he had to say was ‘remember me ....etc’ and Jesus said ‘Today you will be with me....etc ‘ People are just so willing to judge people as false prophets when they themselves may just be plain wrong in their understanding of the simplicity of Jesus as the son of God.
Jesus is not concerned with doctrine, denominations, and Pharisees or Sadducees.....’The Way’ is about saving them...”he who is without sin let him caste the first stone’. I find the gossip and backbiting a sad situation in the Body of Christ when love should cover all sins.
Osteen is not a Christian, his followers are in real risk of eternal damnation. They have nothing but itching ears. They are lovers of self.
“PROPHETS” is the key word here. Osteen is a Pastor, who encourages others to be their best and expect the best. I think most Pastors want to help their congregation have the best Christian life possible. All make mistakes...
I am not in his congregation however I have respect for anyone who is trying to save souls. By the way, how many souls have you actually led to the Lord in your lifetime? Have you reached the hundred fold yet?
I have served God and prayed with many to accept Christ, in places you would never think....the church is for Christians to learn, and grow and yes some come to the altar for Salvation. Most never set foot into a church until their conversion. Jesus said “Go Ye into All the World...” I’ll take a positive loving attitude any day of the week, when it comes to men claiming to serve God.
The Israelites wandered in the desert for forty years because of their murmuring and complaining (look it up)....and missed the promise land. The next generation entered. Let us quit complaining about Pastors and those who love God and are doing their best to serve him.
Classifying those who disagree with Osteen as *legalizers* or *religious dogmatics*, is not worthy of a Christian.
Osteen *nervous* in his interviews? I don’t think so.
He spends way too much time on TV and in front of cameras to make those kinds of rookie mistakes, and if he does, then he needs to get himself WAY better grounded in the word.
Salvation is by trusting and receiving. Even the demons believe in God, and tremble.
Osteen does not preach the gospel. He may teach *accepting Jesus* but that does not equate to salvation especially if the reason you’re doing it is for material gain.
God didn’t provide salvation to us to feed the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, and that’s what virtually all the prosperity gospel preachers are appealing to.
Jesus preached and taught more about hell than heaven. To leave out the penalty of sin and the need for repentance and confession, will not save anyone.
The person who knows he needs God can be and will be saved. Those who don’t ever see their need for God’s provision of salvation for their desperate need, will never come to that point. Nor will those who treat God as a sugar daddy.
God have mercy on your soul.
He. Denied. Jesus.
That disqualifies him from being a pastor.
What did Jesus say the criteria for going to heaven was? Your long drawn out rant really has nothing to do with salvation.
You misunderstood that statement or he mistated what he meant. I can see there is no forgiveness in a man like you....and Jesus said if you can’t forgive others then God cannot forgive you. Sorry.
You are so lost.
