Most Christians speak out against catholicism because it’s their duty to speak out against cults and teachings that are contrary to God’s word. I know it doesn’t matter, because any die hard will refuse to believe the truth and go their graves with the knowledge in their own head that they are absolutely right.

I’ll just stick with God’s word and leave the church’s manipulations and sacrileges be.

“If you pray to God for something, do you call that expecting God to wave his magic wand? Well that’s what the Pope is arguing believing in the miraculous is like.”

Well, God may not do this for the pope, but he has for me thousands of times in my (almost) seventy years...

You just described true catholics.

I do believe there are folks that call themselves catholic though and do believe and are saved, but they aren’t true Vatican catholics.

So I guess there is no such thing as “transubstantiation,” then.

Can’t fall into that trap of thinking God is able to do everything. /S

Unbelievable.

But why was the idea of a day in Gen 1 & 2 meaning millions or billions of years introduced? Look at when it happened. It was theologians attempting to remain relevant in the world of academia after the evolutionary ideas of Malthus and Darwin become dominant.

Evolution over millions of years provides a way to explain our origins without needing God. As one who formerly accepted that theory without question, I am baffled that many who claim to be believers in the one true God choose to accept a twisting of scripture to make it fit man’s ideas of origins. A plain reading of Gen 1 & 2 would leave no doubt in a six day creation. It is only when we decide that the Bible must change to fit man’s (ever changing)theories that we decide that day doesn’t really mean day...God couldn’t possibly have done what He clearly says He did.

Old and new time? Yom used throughout the old testament when used with a number, morning, or evening meant a 24 hour day, when did the “new” shorter time of day used in ever other instance begin? Right after creation? That’s not a logical linguistic interpretation.

God is constant and if you decide that one passage in the Bible isn’t actually true then you have just opened the door to the rest of His word not being true. Which is exactly what evolution has done...cast doubt on the entire word of God including the truth that Jesus is the Son of God and our one and only Savior.

As whacky as I think the Pope is, God is not our celestial butler.

“God is not a magician.”

True. Magicians don’t reveal their secrets. The Lord of Hosts explained how He did it in Genesis.

You are most probably correct in interpreting what he meant.

I was just going by the words on the screen, but that could be wrong...

If, as I suspect, you’re closer to the fact than I was... then its a very disappointing statement ....

I got spoiled by the last Popes....
maybe I need to readjust my perspective a bit..

You do not speak for me. I truly believe in miracles because I have seen them happen to family, friends, and myself. I go to a SBC and we have seen many miracles in our church family but sometimes God answers no. I have attended many different churches in my 70 years and every one believed in miracles. God is in the miracle working business. One that I mentioned on here was about my going to see my dr. When they did my bp, it was 190/95. She was going to send me to the ER if it did not go down in a hurry. She placed me in a patient room to see if that would help. She told me she would be back in a few minutes. The whole time I was waiting, I was praying, “ok, God, you have to help me.”. When she came back after about 5-10 minutes, it was normal. I just said, “thank you, God.”. I knew He could help, and He did. The answer is God.

Pope Francis’s statement seems consistent with Pope Pius XII and Pope John Paul II. Perhaps Francis is expected to make radical statements and even when he doesn’t it gets put in with whatever the press wants.

“that we decide that day doesn’t really mean day...God couldn’t possibly have done what He clearly says He did.”

If you think about it. A day in our time is one revolution of the earth on it’s axis. In the beginning there was no earth and no axis.

[...] and it is the only True Church that can trace its lineage to Him is a sore point...?

That simply isn't true. If you think you can prove it, have at it {You can't).

I believe many of the most vociferous critics of he Church are so because of a very real injustice (or multiple injustices) done to them by her members.

For this reason (among others) I don’t participate in the Cath vs Non threads that pop up on occasion anymore. Sometimes I may offer something in as gentle a way I can but this is done with this knowledge in mind. I urge all Cathlolics do the same, remembering there are some hurt people out there with some valid reasons to be hurt.

.

THE LORD opened The Red Sea for Israel just as shown in "The Ten Commandments" ... but even more breathtaking.

His Holiness apparently has never encountered (personally) the Great I Am ...

That's a shame.

Genesis is plainly written for a reason. Some denominations just need wiggle room because they do not wish to look foolish to the world. They forget that at Judgement Day the world will look foolish. There were six literal days for Creation and God did not have to rest a million years afterwards either.

Galileo was never ex-communicated. Copernicus, a Catholic Priest, developed heliocentricity and was never disciplined for it at all by the Church. Journalism sucks.

I guess being threatened with your life/livelihood is just all right with you. Galileo was imprisoned by your Church. Copernicus was wise enough to to not release his full writings until he was on his death bed. I fail to see what business it is of a church to deny (falsely in Copernicus case for 2 hundred years) what a scientist postulates from mathematics. It doesn't seem like the example Jesus gave us.
