SALT LAKE CITY – A new church essay reveals Mormon church founder Joseph Smith had an underage bride and was married to other men's wives during the early days of the faith when polygamy was practiced.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says most of Smith's wives were adults, but one was a 14-year-old girl who was the daughter of Smith's close friends. Research shows the marriage might not have involved sex.

Read the guidelines by clicking on my profile page.

Basically, if you said "People who oppose LDS are bigots" it would not be "making it personal." But if you said "You are a bigot" that would be making it personal. For something to be "making it personal" it must be speaking to another individual Freeper.

I am a Mormon and certainly do not ignore Jesus, believing him to be both my Lord and my Savior.

Nobody said that polygamy was needed to enter heaven....I merely said that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob obviously didn’t have a problem with them being polygamists.

And if God is the same yesterday, today and forever, maybe this is a teaching that God intended as a stumbling block for those unable to distinguish between testimony of the Holy Ghost and blind acceptance of their own historic religious traditions.

dragonblustar:" If polygamy was so important, needed to enter heaven, why didn’t Jesus preach about it when he was with his apostles?"

Because at the time of Christ, there was an 'avuncular society', which protected women.
The brother of the deceased was expected to provide sustinance for the widowed wife and children; there was no implied or conjugal relationship(implies sexual relationship).

America is a nation full of enough idiots to belong to such religions as the Mormons and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. But then again we have our own modern day used-car salesmen type “prosperity gospel” prophets, don’t we?

Your post was not mind reading or attributing motive or making the thread “about” the other Freeper, so it is no problem.

Unfortunately, the ‘Jesus’ you believe in is as fake as the ‘Jesus’ (or ‘Isa’) that the ‘angel’ Gabriel told Mad Mo about. The mormon ‘Jesus’ is a blasphemous phony concocted by a demon pretending to be an angel.

John 1:1-5 reads, “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

moroni told the polygamist pedophile Smith that Jesus is God’s son and that Jesus and lucifer are brothers. There is no ‘grace’ in mormonism, it is ‘works’ based and ALL go to one of three heavens. Clearly, blasphemous.

satan appears as an angel of light. Over 1000 years ago, to an illiterate caravan driver, he appeared as ‘Gabriel’. To a barely literate ne’er do well in the Northeast, a ‘moroni’. satan IS deceit and muhamedans and mormons are some of the deceived.

You can believe the ‘final word’ that has been changed over 4,000 times or you can believe the Bible, some of the NT letters being traced back to within less than a decade of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kiuEqUjucg

Nea Wood:"Aren’t Mormons also supposed to believe the Bible in addition to their ‘Book of Mormons’? They only believe the Bible insofar as it is translated correctly"

There is only 'The Book of Mormon' (singular)
The 'Pearl of Great Price'
and the 'Old Testament' (King James version) taken as scripture.

Mormonism’s Joseph Smith stole the rituals of Masonry, added some other BS, then created a following. It isn’t even Christian faith. Just watch steakhouses on Easter Sunday.

I would like to point out that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob lived 400-500 years before Moses wrote down the law (dictated by God Himself) that forbids a man from taking more than one wife. Since that time, marriage is between one man and one woman; no exception was written into the law for Joseph Smith, or any of his followers. This is a commandment of God, and no matter how often this law is broken, each and every time it is broken it is still a sin.

So he had 33 wives? That’s a lot of guys that are doing without....

With all of the support men are getting who wants to marry other men and even from some of the Churches it looks like the women will have to share husbands or they might be the ones going with out.

Aren’t Mormons also supposed to believe the Bible in addition to their ‘Book of Mormons’?

They are much like any other religion, if they can they will twist it around to suit them selves. typical religion.
