Pope Francis the loser as hardline bishops veto gay-friendly statements

Pope Francis appeared to have lost out to powerful conservatives in the Roman Catholic church on Saturday after bishops scrapped language that had been hailed as heralding a historic opening towards gay people.

In the final report of an extraordinary synod on the family which has exposed deep divides in church hierarchy, there is no mention – as there had been in a draft version – of the “gifts and qualities” gay people can offer.

Nor is there any recognition of the “precious support” gay partners can give each other.

A paragraph entitled “pastoral attention to people of homosexual orientation” – itself a distinctly cooler tone than “welcoming homosexual persons” – refers to church teaching, saying there can be “not even a remote” comparison between gay unions and heterosexual marriage.

“Nevertheless,” it adds, “men and women of homosexual tendencies must be welcomed with respect and sensitivity.” They should not suffer from discrimination, it adds.

Well, it gets back to a point I made earlier: they are not cultured. They hang out with other uncultured men and come up with these stupid clichés and then they live by them. I was once in a wealthy gay man's NYC house (not an apartment!) and was astonished that he had about 400 books on the evils of Mormonism, Catholicism and general Christianity. As polite as he was, he was obviously drenched in hatred towards religion. Gay men do not need to be coddled by the Catholic Church.

I realize that to many good souls, the Paul VI era represents only liturgical vandalism and disciplinary collapse. However, for me, Paul VI means, more than anything else, the incredible, heart-throbbng, completely against-the-odds and grace-drenched miracle of Humanae Vitae.

This was a turning point in civilization. Yes, I'll double down on that: if the human race still exists 500 years from now --- if Christ tarries in His coming --- they will realize that Pope Paul VI's fidelity to the Holy Spirit of Truth saved their very existence.

Not coddled, no. They're adults. But every circumstance is different. To put the pope's efforts in a positive way, I would say that he's looking for the one lost sheep, or the "bruised reed."

His style makes me uncomfortable, but that could be my fault, or the effect of media spin.

No, I think it’s just my own annoyance at gay men and the gay agenda. I’ve lost all patience with them. It’s not you, believe me.

I suggest you re-read many of the posts regarding the relatio. You will find many, many, posts which either explicitly or implicitly, indicate homosexuals should be kept out of the church.

In my experience, there have been homosexuals who left the Church or didn’t enter because they believed the Church taught they were “bad” people. When asked why they believed that, they mentioned the way they were treated by parishioners. They also mentioned what they had read, and what was emphasized when they saw Church leaders on TV. Of course, none of that squares with the Catechism.

Homosexuality is intrinsically disordered. However, homosexual people are children of God.

Be glad you are one of the 99, because the lost sheep is likely hurting, and very alone without Christ and His Church.

“They should not suffer from discrimination, it adds.”

Malevolent nonsense. It is an absolute moral duty to protect the innocent from those who prey upon them, and that means discrimination in hiring and housing, at the very least.

“Ever since his election last March, he has made clear his belief that the church needs to become more inclusive”

Well, why don’t we just start handing out “Eucharist-to-Go” kits for Satanists?

You are making fine points although it seems quite naïve to me. But I live in realville as Rush would say and the homosexual community is not likely to rush en masse into the Catholic Church unless their proclivities are made a sacrament and the rainbow flag replaces the Chalice.

Now, if one lost sheep returns to the fold, that’s great. If he’s in the pew sitting next to me, how would I even know he was a homosexual? He’s as free as me to do that. As if I would care anyway - I’ve lived among homosexuals my entire adult life.

grace-drenched miracle of Humanae Vitae.

Really, what difference did it make, when you look at young Catholics and their secularized and unCatholic attitudes toward contraception and even abortion?

Homosexuals who fully intend to continue their active sinning lifestyle and whose main interest is in changing the Church's position on homosex from both the outside and inside should be kept out of the Church.

I think we need to define terms. A person with same-sex attraction is referred to as homosexual.

Unfortunately, that term also has the implied meaning the individual is engaging in homosexual activity, without any intention of stopping.

In my posts, I intend to mean those with same-sex attraction who wish to live a life ordered to the will of God. Like many sinners, they may commit sins of sexual immorality, but seek pardon and to conform their lives.

Certainly, there are those who seek to destroy the Church, among them, various militant homosexual groups. We should vigorously oppose them. That said, we should preach the Gospel daily to them, even if we have to use words.

Do you think many homosexuals in “couple” relationships will suddenly go chaste? After all, this whole discussion is about gays in “family” (barf) relationships.

I hope they would become chaste, but miracles belong to God.

Regarding families, I don’t think, and I could be wrong, the relatio was discussing same-sex couples. I believe it was discussing people in irregular marriages or cohabitation.

We should hope, pray, and evangelize all people, again, using words if we must. No person or group of persons should live their lives not knowing God loves them, Jesus died for them, and God wants them to be close to Him.

They are invited in Frankie. It’s hard to believe you’re a Catholic, much less the pope.

Francis can’t change settled doctrine and it’s about to drive him crazy. He’s sees nothing at all wrong with having homosexuals all over the Vatican. He sees nothing wrong with all the homosexuals made priests after Vat 2 that brought so much discredit on the Church. These sodomites are his buddies, led by American bishop Donna Wuerl, the pro-abortion modernist who’s as queer as as wooden nickle, and Francis has to know, and he does not care.

A non-practising homosexual is as free as anyone to partake of communion. My only difference with you is that my experience tells me that the vast majority of them are dead set against any kind of sexual restraint. I used to communicate by email with Andrew Sullivan years ago when he said he was a “committed” Catholic. He went off the rails so badly, I’m still feeling the aftershock. He left Great Britain and fell in with radical American gays and has never recovered.

From the beginning of the Gospel of John:

"He came to His own,
and His own did not receive Him.
But as many as received Him,
to them He gave the right
to become children of God"

It is par for the course for the Truth to come and for people not to receive it. But to those who did receive Humanae Vitae, it changed lives, saved marriages, enriched families, led to the multiplication of more godly children, and down the generations--- perhaps after the collapse of all the contraceptive societies --- it will make a big difference in saving the Church as well as the world.

This is the truth. Watch. You'll see.

They should have changed “homosexual orientation” to “homosexual preference”

“The Church” is the believers, the poeple, not some physical institution
