Pope Francis appeared to have lost out to powerful conservatives in the Roman Catholic church on Saturday after bishops scrapped language that had been hailed as heralding a historic opening towards gay people.
In the final report of an extraordinary synod on the family which has exposed deep divides in church hierarchy, there is no mention as there had been in a draft version of the gifts and qualities gay people can offer.
Nor is there any recognition of the precious support gay partners can give each other.
A paragraph entitled pastoral attention to people of homosexual orientation itself a distinctly cooler tone than welcoming homosexual persons refers to church teaching, saying there can be not even a remote comparison between gay unions and heterosexual marriage.
Nevertheless, it adds, men and women of homosexual tendencies must be welcomed with respect and sensitivity. They should not suffer from discrimination, it adds.

The TRUTH prevails at Synod of the Family, despite attempts to redefine Sin.
...is the headline Id have written...
Anybody else think its time to re-read AA-1025?
Is Amendment10 saying he is without sin. Hmmmm... there is a scripture on that.
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 1 John 1:8-10
If we shut the church doors on sinners, the churches will be empty.
I hear ya.
This Synod was convened because there are many political and social forces which are causing confusion among Catholics and in the way others view Catholics on family issues. The flame-fanning press is a huge influence, reporting every instance of the pope not condemning gays or divorcees as an indication that he wants to change doctrine to say that these behaviors are no longer sins. I don’t believe that is his plan, and I don’t believe that will happen. This latest report from the synod supports that.
I don’t understand why so many are characterizing this as ‘The pope is losing’. Only people who believe everything the press reports and don’t actually read the context or the actual words could believe otherwise. On EVERY issue so far, the breathless, drama-queen reports of the pope allowing women priests, disregarding active homosexual behavior or ongoing adultery have proven to be false. The press are pushing your buttons, and you are jumping to their beat. They are trying to weaken the Church by discouraging and confusing Catholics and by emboldening critics. With many here that plan is working beautifully.
The purpose of the Synod is to discuss issues. We all know that there are bishops and cardinals and priests who are pushing for inappropriate action on these issues. They have been given a voice in this Synod, which exactly where this kind of debate belongs. At every turn, the press has jumped at the chance to report the questions as though they were the answers. The liberals are losing. I don’t believe Pope Francis is among them.
I also suspect that there are many conservative priests there who are gaining valuable insight into how to educate their liberal parishioners on these issues without alienating them.
Those who can’t see through the agenda of the leftist media should probably stop watching the sausage being made. In the end it is going to be fine, but the process is messy.
Love, O2
I am absolutely dumbfounded that, just as the US church is wrapping up millions of dollars in cases against mostly male children, the Pope, no less, would try to muddy the waters. Child sex is wrong, homosexual sex is wrong and divorce is wrong.
Good words from Pope Francis in his speech, ones Catholics should heed imo.
Headline:
Liberal Media with an agenda loses as overwhelming majority of bishops eliminate confusion about Truth.
There....headline now reflects reality.
Excellent analysis of the situation and the Pope.
The media which is 99.999% progressive is bent on lying about Pope Francis and even here some are falling for that baloney.
Can the Pope be impeached?
Welp. If this pope had his way, it seems as if acceptance of homosexuals would be a form of Church dogma, no?
Any softening of Church beliefs on Life, Homosexuality, Faith and Euthanasia, to name a few, would be contradictory to Christ’s teachings.
If the Church departs from Jesus’ Word then it is not His Church.
We now know the agenda and the identity of the malefactors and there are two clearly defined groups opposing each other. The de facto split which has existed in the Church for the past 50 years is now out in the open. Things will never be the same again.
Sadly, we now know that +Francis is leading the revolt, through his bagman, Kasper. He is a wolf amongst the sheep who has caused great harm, as Card. Burke stated. He might have lost this round but further outrages await us.
That is true. I have seen the studies. I have also seen medical studies about the toll the sexual activity wreaks on homosexuals’ bodies. It’s horrible. The average life span for a homo male is 46.
That’s true. But persecution is a real possibility as the church moves away from God’s protection and into secularism and it’s sin.
I pray they don’t go there. If the leaders fall, I hope the Catholic people let them travel astray alone. They know what is right and what is wrong.
“...Supposedly: as for the rejected paragraphs, they will still be sent out (!) as part of the entire text to dioceses around the world for “discussion” in preparation for next year’s assembly. Yes, even though they were rejected... Well, at least the dioceses will still be able to see the vote count...”

WOOT!
The sexual abuse scandal in the Church was in the 80s. There is no sex scandal now, as a matter of fact there are more sex crimes committed by protestant and Jewish clergy than Catholics. And the vast majority were homosexual priests having sex with teenage boys, not children. Most have now been weeded out. Not all, but most. Wuerl is still around.
The strong, faithful Anglicans today are from Africa, as well.
I suspect Francis set this up to counter the pressure. Now he can shrug his shoulders, “Maybe nest time...”
“God writes straight with crooked lines...”
