Pope Francis appeared to have lost out to powerful conservatives in the Roman Catholic church on Saturday after bishops scrapped language that had been hailed as heralding a historic opening towards gay people.
In the final report of an extraordinary synod on the family which has exposed deep divides in church hierarchy, there is no mention as there had been in a draft version of the gifts and qualities gay people can offer.
Nor is there any recognition of the precious support gay partners can give each other.
A paragraph entitled pastoral attention to people of homosexual orientation itself a distinctly cooler tone than welcoming homosexual persons refers to church teaching, saying there can be not even a remote comparison between gay unions and heterosexual marriage.
Nevertheless, it adds, men and women of homosexual tendencies must be welcomed with respect and sensitivity. They should not suffer from discrimination, it adds.

Catholic ping!
I think Jesus would name people of the secular culture of America, pagans, which includes Christians who think and live as pagans. The sinners He hung out with repented or left Him. The part liberals hate to remember after he protected the slut from being stoned, was his order to “go and sin no more.”
Modern gays have all their identity and pride wrapped up into homo activity (attention whores) everywhere they go (especially in church) and that would disqualify them from hanging out with Jesus. They surely would not change Him and He would surely not have them prancing around in His Father’s house like they own it. He’d know that homosexuality is the underpinnings of child sexual abuse in the church and He’d fix that pronto.
Wasn’t Paul an unrepentant sinner? And didn’t Jesus Himself come to Paul?
Didn’t Jesus Himself reach out to prostitutes and tax collectors, who were persisting in sin?
So, how did Jesus treat pagans and tax collectors?
I am sure each one of us has a persistent sin we struggle with. It may be pride, jealousy, or any other sin. However, God calls us to recognize our sin, confess it, and to re-order our life to Him.
Don’t you think there are at least a few homosexuals who struggle with purity, but seek God honestly? Don’t you think there are at least some homosexuals who are heroically virtuous, living out the Beatitudes in spirit and action? Don’t they deserve to be recognized by the Church as a person possessed of human dignity, and in need of repentance?
Are we to completely ignore homosexuals? We can’t ignore homosexual sin, nor can we normalize it. Further we can’t normalize homosexual relationships, as they are intrinsically disordered. However, we can certainly value our fellow sinners.
Actually, those "gifts" are no different than the ones offered by anyone of us We have two gay parishioners in our very small parish. Both have donated their time and talent through construction of permanent signs, serving on various committees, organizing events, ushering, lectoring, and the list goes on and on. One of them cared for aging parents, praying at their bedside, ensuring they were attended to by our pastor and received a proper Catholic funeral mass and burial. (the straight sibling simply showed up for the wake and burial). Both individuals practice a humble faith. As a parish, we are all indebted to their "gifts".
What the heck is this guy thinking?
I’m stunned...
But, you know, though he is the Holy Father, we know the Truth and don’t need it affirmed by men in skirts.
Jesus thought of the Church differently.
Jesus identifies Himself with His Church.
"Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"
Which is why He also said,
"If he won't listen to the church, treat him as a pagan or tax collector."
This is nothing new. It’s love the sinner but hate sin. How about this.
“Men and women of adultry tendencies must be welcomed with respect and sensitivity.
“Men and women with tendencies to steal must be welcomed with respect and sensitivity”.
I could go on. Nothing is a sin until you act on it.
But what does aggravate me is the part about “must be welcomed”. Why say this. Like any other sinner, homosexuals have always been welcomed in the Church, but not practicing the sin of homosexuality.
But if the Church does not heed the Word of God and we know the Truth, why adhere to the word of Man when we know it contradicts the Truth?
To get advice from the bishops, like the Council of Jerusalem, right?
And all serious studies on homosexuals show the majority of them to be sexual predators. Most that are in relationships are in “poly” relationships. Which means they go into them with the understanding that they can sleep with as many other homosexuals or lesbians as they feel like sleeping with. I have said it before and I’ll say it again. The first case brought before some judge asking for polgyamy to be made legal will be a half dozen lesbians that want to “get married”. With the vast majority of homosexuals and lesbians it’s all about sex and having a good time. Love and commitment to one another has nothing to do with their lifestyle. It is all about what makes them feel good. Marriage is about stinking it to Christians and pretending that the majority of Americans feel they have the “right” to marry.
Since none of these are singled out for special recognition and "welcome", why doesn't the same standard apply to "gays"? The sanctimonious catering to that particular group is absurd, particularly in light of the tremendous damage "gay" molesters have inflicted on the Church.
The Pope seems to be called to the "bruised reeds." That's a good thing. I just with he wouldn't give us so much agida along the way.
I want them to be the force for good they once were. So yes. But I’ll never shy away from pointing out their flat rejection of biblical teachings. And so far, this Pope has gone off rez pretty heavily into a highly socialistic/communistic approach that seems to get lots of changes and retractions from his press people when the members get restless.
If he were doing Gods work, I dont think that would be needed. His bishops and cardinals seem to do whatever they feel like. Some embrace the clearly false doctrine of ‘Chrislam” some the Homo garbage and he has said nothing as did his predecessors about the Kennedy/Pelosi types that rewrite scripture and promote abortion at will.
Yes, it makes me really upset to see it.
Jesus is the Word, and he identifies Himself with His Church.
Do you have an example of a Church dogma (a teaching that the Church binds Catholics to believe) that contradicts something that Jesus taught?
bingo, I think that’s a winner !
Like Pilate getting advice from the Jews?
At least Pilate let the Jews speak in public. He didn’t try to muzzle them.
amen.
