666 has meaning behind it. John the Revelator was Hebrew. He would have known that each Hebrew letter of the alphabet (which is a number too) has a meaning and/or symbol to it. In the scripture it was written as six hundred and sixty six. Not 666. I find the meaning of this is to be "in the end times, a head will emerge, Satan (snake), and will hook people into sin(disbelief in my book). Allow me to show you how it works by viewing this:
I believe that the letters used to write six hundred and sixty six would be the letter Tav because it equals 400, the letter Resh because it equals 200 and these two added together would equal six hundred. The letter Samech would be used to represent 60, the letter Vav would be used to represent the number 6. So, John would have used the letters Tav, Resh, Samech, and Vav (Vav can be written vav or waw depending on some people translate Hebrew) to represent six hundred and sixty six. Tav has a meaning of "end of existence". Resh has a meaning of "emerging head". Samech has a meaning of Satan or snake. And Vav has a meaning of hook and sin. In any case, you can find through these letters and symbols how John would have used Tav, Resh, Samech, and Vav to represent Satan and his prophetic future.
One approach to bible study is to look for prior uses of the subject material.
The number 666 was the number of silver talons that Solomon taxed his people after he turned from God.
This represented a huge burden on the people of Israel, and this level of taxation practically made them slaves.
So 666 means using in this context the Antichrist will raise taxes to unbearable levels and enslave his people.
So is 10-5-6-5 important? Yod Hey Vav Hey ?
Does the following have any merit? I’m not selling an idea. Just inquiring.
The biblical scholar also noted that the formula of Exodus — “This is my name forever” (Exodus 3:15) — through a play of words in Hebrew is interpreted by the Talmud of Jerusalem as “This is my name to remain hidden.”
Now, this is where things get interesting .... YHWH , the Tetragrammaton is composed of :
Yod
-Yod or yud was anciently portrayed as a symbol of a hand [yad in Hebrew]. This is the entire hand, or closed hand [in contrast with the letter kaf, which comes from the pictograph of the palm of the hand]. The closed hand denotes power and, figuratively, ownership.
-Yod is masculine. In the sacred name Yahweh, it is representative of the Father.
-Yod is the seminal letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It cannot be divided into component parts, like other letters can. It signifies the oneness of Elohim.
-The yod is the smallest [and most humble] letter. From it, the other letters originate. It is symbolic of creation.
Hey
-The letter hey is feminine, and represents femininity and gentleness. The first hey in the Name is representative of the Mother / Holy Spirit / Eloah.
-Hey means behold, to show or to reveal.
Vav
-Vav is also masculine in gender.
-Vav signifies a nail, peg, or hook. It also conveys the meaning of being nailed or bound together.
-The numerical value of vav is 6.
They are pronounced, in Hebrew, “Yod Hey Vav Hey,” when you read them in the Hebrew manner from right to left.
The four letters in God’s name in Hebrew have the following meanings:
Hey = Behold
Vav = Nail
Yod = Closed Hand
When read in English from left to right, it says:
“BEHOLD THE NAIL, BEHOLD THE HAND!” Or, “Behold the nailed hand.”
An Episcopal priest I was very good friends with told me it was symbolic of Nero.
The early Christians were very interested in numerology, and when the rules of numerology are applied to the letters in Nero the result is 666 (sometimes 616)
The text is very specific that it is the number of a man, interpretation calls for wisdom, and that it is the result of a calculation.
I tend to believe that this all adds up the the Nero interpretation being more probable that any of the others.
Every LARGE and influential culture had developed its own numerical system. We even still use Roman numerals sometimes. SO how can ONE number from that plethora of systems identify with the evil one?
.
It's NONSENSE, superstitious and puerile.
"Wha-wha-WHAT!"
That would be the apparent meaning in Greek
Finally explained!
John was Jewish, but Greek was the lingua franca back then and the common language of Judaea at the time was Aramaic. Take note of where the apostles went when they left Judaea; their commission was to bring the gospel to the known world and to the lost tribes of Israel. Also take note of Isaiah 28:11.
Lest anyone say that there is aught special about the Hebrew language, also note that it was God that created all the diverse languages at the Tower of Babel as noted in Genesis 11:7-9.
BKMK
I like that!
Great illustration and I love it. I also have the understanding that His name means I AM that I AM or I AM in English. It is a eternal named pronounced with one breath, because He breathed life into everything. Not I was, not I am going to be, but eternally I AM.
I am not worried about who the AntiChrist will be. I am not worried about taking the mark of the beast. I am not worried about the number 666. I plan on being gone when my LORD comes and say “Come up here” and the Church flys away in the Rapture prior to all the Trib stuff starting. I ain’t looking for the AntiChrist, I am looking for Jesus Christ.
Don’t quote me, I am just coming to this thought process and may be wrong.
Thanks.... I needed that!!!
So satan will come as a perpetual whiner... I think he is already here and a politician!!!
It’s still an interesting concept, worth thinking about.
This is interesting and I never heard this before.
People argue incessently over whether biblical language should be taken literally or symbolically. There is no reason why it cannot be both. In this case, even if the text is literally pointing to Nero as the antichrist and Rome as the beast, symbolically it is also describing any tyrant, or any oppressive political system.
Interesting.
