Victoria Osteen, wife of megachurch preacher and New York Times bestselling author Joel Osteen, is now facing withering criticism online for a viral video clip in which she is shown telling congregants at Lakewood Church that obedience, worship and church attendance is not for God but themselves.
"I just want to encourage every one of us to realize when we obey God, we're not doing it for GodI mean, that's one way to look at itwe're doing it for ourselves, because God takes pleasure when we're happy," she said in the 36-second clip posted on YouTube, with her husband smiling at her side in approval. "That's the thing that gives Him the greatest joy "
"So, I want you to know this morning: Just do good for your own self. Do good because God wants you to be happy," she continued. "When you come to church, when you worship Him, you're not doing it for God really. You're doing it for yourself, because that's what makes God happy. Amen?" the clip ended as congregants cheered.
Erick Erickson, politicly conservative blogger and editor-in-chief of the blog site RedState.com, summed up his reaction to Mrs. Osteen's pronouncement in a quote from the 1995 movie "Billy Madison."
"What you've just said is one of the most insanely, idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent, response, were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. May God have mercy on your soul," it ended.

Ping. I think she should have said God doesn’t need our worship. We need to worship God.
Roger that. It makes me ill when I see those postings.
Don't breathe too much alkali dust...
Looks like the winds have died down.

Should burn any minute.
Hear! Hear!
God doesn’t want our worship, God wants our obedience.
I see the relationship with God much like the relationship between a parent and their children.
I tell my children what they should do, and what they should not do.
I do this out of love so that they can live happier, healthier, wealthier, longer, more fullfilled lives.
If they listen to what I tell them, it will make me happy because they they are happy.
Thus it is with God.
No you were taking the patriarchal position that women should just shut up.
Last time I checked Joel is an idiot, and he, is a he, not a she.
So what difference does it make between the Olsteen’s if she says something stupid when Joel, the dude, says stupid or evil stuff all the time.
The Measure of a Man
The measure of a man isn't his wealth, or how he looks or speaks.
The measure of a man is how he uses his God given strengths to:
Provide for his family
Help his neighbors and
Take care of himself.
When he does these things to the best of his ability he honors God and he is a Man.
I don’t get what’s wrong with what she said?
Does God want every one to be happy? I can think of a few things that would make me happy but I am afraid God would disapprove.
So I am not in disagreement with you but every one is different, some times keeping God happy with me does not make me happy.
Obviously it does not keep Victori happy either because she was told by paul not to preach or teach in Church, but she is happy not paying any attention to what Paul said even though being a protestant she most likely believes Paul to be the father of Christianity.
But I would argue that when you are better off you are in a much better position to be happy than if you are:
- divorced because you committed adultery.
- in jail because you robbed someone
- being evicted because you went into debt
- dying of AIDS because you had sex outside of marriage
- greedy and have never experienced the joy of giving to someone who is truly deserving and appreciative.
- hated by everyone because you are liar and a gossip.
- are filled with envy of what others have and thus can never find joy with what you do have.

And I am not taking any patriarchal position, I am just saying what Paul said anf if Victoria knew enough about scripture to be preaching she would know that she is not to preach or teach in Church.
I believe the part that we should look at real good is the happy part, if she is happy doing what God said why is she doing what he said not to do?
I thought sinners such as I am are the only ones who were happy doing what God said not to do.
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.(Jn 4:2324).
I’m glad someone posted an article about Osteen as the regular daily Osteen devotionals are off limits to comment on. He is a charlatan and a fraud. I also wish those daily postings would be banned from FR as what Osteen represents is a false doctrine.

And secondly I believe the only way we can worship god is to keep his commandments.

Suggest you read the bestseller by someone who has been called the “theological Einstein of our times,” by BenedictXVI: “Jesus of Nazareth.”
I think she and Joel make up what God wants. It’s not in the Bible.
Don’t see anybody from the Osteen devotional ping list coming to their defense. The poster likes to stand behind the no discussion ploy on their daily posts so no one can speak the truth about the Osteen’s!
“He indeed died for all, so that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.”

A tempest in a tea pot.
Doing God’s will is good for us.
So what’s new?
