Do you all remember Cardinal Hummes? Yes, the Pope's greatest friend in the College of Cardinals, the Franciscan who inspired the papal name "Francis", the man who was right by the Pope's side in the loggia in the memorable evening of his election. As an emeritus, his influence is obviously a more understated one. Anyway, he granted an extensive interview days ago (July 27) to a paper in his native Brazil, and the answers are just remarkable, particularly this one, on same-sex "marriages":
If Jesus were alive today, would he be in favor of gay marriage?
I don't know, I formulate no hypothesis on this. Who must answer this is the Church in its entirety. We must take care not to raise issues individually, because this ends up creating more difficulties for us to reach a valid conclusion. I think we must get together, listen to people, those who have an interest, the bishops. It is the Church that must indicate the ways, and there must be a way for all.
Perfectly clear.
>>Pointed to as the Brazilian Cardinal nearest to the new Pope, His Eminence, Claudio Cardinal Hummes, 78, says that the Church does not work as it is now, and its entire structure is asking for changes.<<
Just like the Mahdi, this pope is looking more and more like a Trojan Horse.
Isn’t he the one who would have the Church be more politically active and LEFT? A Socialist?
There. Fixed it.
Spoken like a true advocate of Situation Ethics.
Apparently he has apostatized.
Guilt by association?
Hmmmm...Jesus spent a lot of time with sinners.
In a way this reminds me of NYC Cardinal O’Connor. When he stated the Catholic Church’s stands against abortion and homosexuality, he was a BAAAAD Cardinal. When he spoke out against Pres. Reagan’s “Star Wars” program and bashed him and Pres. Bush Sr. for not “doing enough” for the poor, he was a GOOOOOD Cardinal.
Jesus is alive and wouldn’t understand why two men or two women would insist on engaging what has historically been a fertility ritual that predates the Church and Jesus himself.
Every time somebody brings that up I have to wonder: does that mean sin is good?
It means he spent time with those who needed to be saved. In other words, he wasn't here to preach to the choir.
Jesus IS alive today.
Yeah, but proselytism is solemn nonsense, it makes no sense.

If you have to wonder about that, you’re already in big trouble. ;-o
Here is what I was getting at.
When a member of the clergy goes yucking it up with an enemy of Christ, giving him comfort and affirmation in his sins, somebody invariably brings up Jesus having lunch with a tax man or something. Other favorites are “He who is without sin cast the first stone,” and “Judge not, lest ye be judged,” all intended to tie our consciences and normalize support for baby-killing, fudge-packing socialists.
