Jessa Duggar is currently courting Ben Seewald, a very strong Christian with very strong views on things. His views on the Catholic faith, however, recently caused a social media scandal and Seewald deleted the comments he had posted to his Facebook page.
"Where Catholics depart from Scripture, I will in no way support, but will call them out because I love them and desire that they be turned from their deadly errors," Seewald wrote. He also noted that he disagreed with the claim that Jesus' mother Mary was a "sinless being. I have nothing against individuals who are Catholic," he continued. "I know a lot of Catholics who are great people. What I DO have a problem with is the teaching that man can merit God's favor through his own works or the works of other fallen men."
Seewald was still not through expressing his disappointment with the Catholic tradition.
"I DO have a problem with the teaching that man can come to God through Mary or any other person besides Jesus
I DO have a problem with the deification of Mary as a sinless being. Mary herself admitted her need for a Savior. If she had no sin, she would need no Savior," he concluded.

I agree with him,too.
“just THINK WHY GOD would have HIS ONLY SON be BORN of a SINFILLED WOMAN!!!!”
Since all humans are fallen and sinful, there would be no other kind!!
We are not showing distain for her. We just know the Bible says everyone is sinful. Even Mary.
As I said, Mary was saved, by grace alone. God filled Her with grace at the moment of conception.
And you claim I "misuse" scripture, but do nothing to address any points. All men have sinned, Jesus was a man. Did He sin? All men die, Enoch did not die. Scripture taken in context shatters Protestant doctrine, which is why Protestants decry context in nearly every instance.
Amen.
There is nothing in that passage of Scripture to indicate that the saints who are praying are in Heaven. It says that the beasts, the elders and the angels are in Heaven, and are offering the prayers of the saints... There is nothing I can find in Scripture to indicate that we can hear requests from others to pray for them when we are dead.
Yes, she received Grace - as do we all when we are saved.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Eph. 2:8-9)
Jess is a lucky gal to have found Ben!
Gross and repulsive. You need to just head over to DU where you belong.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Mama B. I love you but dang..........Ok....we will just agree to disagree. lol. Have a great one!!!!!
That may have worked before Catholic prayers to Mary asking her to do something other than just intercede were posted for all to see. How about lets look at a prayer to Mary.
Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary Mary, who as teacher of faith by your obedience to the word of God, has cooperated in a remarkable way with the work of redemption, make the ministry of deacons effective by teaching them to hear the word and to proclaim it faithfully.
Mary, teacher of charity, who by your total openness to God's call has cooperated in bringing to birth all the church's faithful, make the ministry and the life of deacons fruitful by teaching them to give themselves totally to the service of the people of God.
Mary, teacher of prayer, who through your maternal intercession has supported and helped the church from her beginnings, make deacons always attentive to the needs of the faithful by teaching them to come to know the value of prayer. Mary, teacher of humility, who, by constantly knowing yourself to be the servant of the Lord, has filled with the Holy Spirit, make deacons docile instruments in Christ's work of redemption by teaching them the greatness of being the least of all.
Mary, teacher of that service which is hidden, who by your everyday and ordinary life filled with love knew how to cooperate with the salvific plan of God in an exemplary fashion, make deacons good and faithful servants by teaching them the joy of serving the church with an ardent love. Amen.
There are many, many more on line. Catholics need to understand how disingenuous statements like yours are.
Then what is purgatory for?
The purification of our souls. I don't understand how the question relates to merit.
Because if he wasnt born of a sinful mother He wouldnt be like us in all ways accept for sin.
Scripture also says for all have sinned. Jesus is the only one that it specifically says was without sin.
If I really cared what a twit like Ben Seewald thinks about me and my religion I might be offended. But since I don’t, I’m not.
You are not suggesting that Mary was sinless from birth, right? Because I can see nothing in Scripture to support that. I certainly believe she was forgiven of any sins and thus made "sinless" when the Holy Spirit came upon her. But I do not believe or see any Scripture to support the idea that Mary was sinless or a perpetual virgin after the birth of Christ.
That is hard to do right now when I am dealing with myasthenia gravis and double vision. Thanks. You too.
Jesus HAD to be born in human form- and since the scriptures clearly indicate that none are exempt from Adam’s sin and their own to boot, that Mary , chosen as a vessel (a and therefore highly favored by God-not chosen because of her qualities specifically) bore the Son of God after being “overshadowed” by the Holy Spirit. Jesus was born of woman, born under the law to save those condemned by the law through His perfect sacrifice that took all of God’s Holy Wrath against sin and exhausted God’s anger towards all of mans sin (”It is Finished”), past present and future; thereby establishing a new covenant in His blood.
Mary indeed was a sinful woman, and she needed the salvation her Son ( fully human and fully God)provided her.
May God richly bless His Gospel
Indeed we can be full of grace-even as sinners saved by that very grace. It is His righteousness that justifies the believer, not any personal quality (or lack thereof-the self righteousness is forgiven, the sinful actions forgiven too).
Grace, if you recall, is undeserved favor- a free gift (otherwise it would be a debt of God, not a gift of God!)
Eyes wide open indeed, to the Gospel of Grace not of works lest any should boast!
