Jessa Duggar is currently courting Ben Seewald, a very strong Christian with very strong views on things. His views on the Catholic faith, however, recently caused a social media scandal and Seewald deleted the comments he had posted to his Facebook page.
"Where Catholics depart from Scripture, I will in no way support, but will call them out because I love them and desire that they be turned from their deadly errors," Seewald wrote. He also noted that he disagreed with the claim that Jesus' mother Mary was a "sinless being. I have nothing against individuals who are Catholic," he continued. "I know a lot of Catholics who are great people. What I DO have a problem with is the teaching that man can merit God's favor through his own works or the works of other fallen men."
Seewald was still not through expressing his disappointment with the Catholic tradition.
"I DO have a problem with the teaching that man can come to God through Mary or any other person besides Jesus
I DO have a problem with the deification of Mary as a sinless being. Mary herself admitted her need for a Savior. If she had no sin, she would need no Savior," he concluded.

Not sinless, though.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
A love so great it drove his #1 angel over creation into a murderously insane fit of jealousy!
As a Catholic, I may disagree with him (and he with me), but his posts are not “anti-Catholic.”
It’s a theological disagreement, and, bluntly, one that is not relevant to a person’s ultimate destination.
Close your eyes and just THINK WHY GOD would have HIS ONLY SON be BORN of a SINFILLED WOMAN!!!! It's really ridiculous.....even my Jewish husband understands it.
Ann?
The “Hail Mary
comes DIRECTLY from Elizabeth John the BAPTISTS’S MOTHER at the VISITATION!!!
WHAT??? I go to Mass EVERY day, I have NEVER heard that!!
Riiiight.... Jesus’s MOTHER can’t do a THING for you......yeah.
As I read the Bible, the term "saints" is not applied to dead Christians that have some miracles associated with them. "Saints" just refers to the believers. You and I are saints. The original Greek term simply means "holy one" or "set apart" or "sanctified". We are made holy through through His blood when we accept his sacrifice and become part of His Body (the church).
Without knowing how your acquaintances “pray” it is impossible to know whether they are following Catholic doctrine. Sadly, it is sometimes the case that Catholics do not know the tenants of their own religion. I have met fellow Catholics for instance who are unaware that the church teaches that the eucharist is the actual body and blood of Jesus not merely a symbol.
Maybe you will think I am weird, but my mother died when I was seventeen and yes at times I ask her to pray for me, I think you would be surprised at how many people ask their much loved relatives that have passed on for strength here on Earth.
Yes.
The big difference is that Elizabeth was talking to Mary directly - she was not praying to her after she was dead... And the Hail Mary is a bit different, in that Elizabeth did not ask Mary to pray for her. So while a part of that ritual comes from Scripture, not all of it does.
How did he get the right to limit the powers of God?
Granted this is from the text of the "old" Mass but it's still there:
To us also Thy sinful servants, who put our trust in the multitude of Thy mercies, vouchsafe to grant some part and fellowship with Thy holy Apostles and Martyrs: with John, Stephen, Matthias, Barnabas, Ignatius, Alexander, Marcellinus, Peter, Felicitas, Perpetua, Agatha, Lucy, Agnes, Cecilia, Anastasia, and all Thy Saints. Into their company we beseech Thee admit us, not considering our merits, but freely pardoning our offenses. Through Christ our Lord.
By whom, O Lord, Thou dost always create, sanctify +, quicken +, bless +, and bestow upon us all these good things.
Through Him +, and with Him +, and in Him +, is unto Thee, God the Father + Almighty, in the unity of the Holy + Ghost, all honor and glory. World without end.
There it is in black and white for all the world to see, the big secret of Catholicism... we don't merit salvation.
Grace is something God gives to all of us. It is by grace that we are all saved. She was full of grace at that point because she had been overshadowed by the Holy Spirit and had conceived the Savior. I have no doubt that God cleansed her from her sin prior to her conception.
However, I think you err in drawing the conclusion that a) Mary lived a sinless life until that point, and b) that she lived a sinless life after the birth of Christ (not to mention c)that she was assumed bodily into Heaven without seeing death.)
You really need to calm down. Just because I do not believe Mary was sinless throughout her life doesn’t mean I am showing disdain for her. As the Bible says, she was blessed above all women. But that does not say she lived a sinless life.
There was only one sinless Person, and that was Jesus. If it were possible for ANY person to live a sinless life without Christ, then Christ died in vain because we have the ability to live a sinless life without His death, and would need no forgiveness.
“What I DO have a problem with is the teaching that man can merit God’s favor through his own works or the works of other fallen men.”
Uh, who teaches that? The Catholic Church does not teach that we merit anything BY OUR OWN WORKS. The works are God’s. We cooperate with them.
This is what I understand a saint to be as well.
