Jesus Would Support Universal Healthcare, Say Most Americans
Christian Post ^ | 07/16/2014 | Morgan Lee

Posted on 07/16/2014 8:57:06 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

A recent poll suggests that a majority of Americans believe Jesus would have backed universal healthcare. According to a YouGov survey released earlier in July, 55 percent of respondents believe that Christ would have endorsed the issue.

Despite this majority, a slight minority of American Protestants believed that the Jesus they knew would have supported universal healthcare. Only 48 percent of Protestants suggested this, in contrast to the 57 percent of Catholics who argued that their religion's founder would have backed it.

Aside from Jesus, 46 percent of Protestants and 55 percent of Catholics themselves backed the policy.

In addition to studying Christ's followers thoughts on his sentiments surrounding universal healthcare, the study also asked what Americans believed his convictions were on abortion, gay marriage, the death penalty, high taxes on the wealthy, stricter gun laws, and reducing carbon emissions.

Of the six issues mentioned above, the only one which the majority of Americans (52 percent) believed that Jesus might support was reducing carbon emissions. Sixty-four percent of Americans also endorsed them.

Only 20 percent believed that Christ would support abortion, though despite acknowledging this, 48 percent of Americans said they personally approved of it. Thirty-two percent of Americans argued that Christ would support gay marriage, while 48 percent also approved it. Among Protestants, 31 percent backed same-sex marriage and abortion.

The New Testament makes it clear that giving should be done from the heart, freely, without compulsion.

One of the greatest parts of FR is finding that somebody else has said what I want to say, and often said it better !

Yep, Jesus turned to the money changers in the Temple and said, “organize into a group like the IRS (yes, it will exist in the future) and force people to give money to take care of others.

Yeah, that was the message. Jesus was a democrat heavy handed thug...

Read the writings of the Black Brigade of the American War for Independence. The Black Brigade were the preachers who joined the Continental Army to fight the British.

From 2nd Corinthians 9:7 ...
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

You can find cross references in your annotated Bible. The concept is well established.

Morons. Much of modern health care is sin clothed in health care. Christ promises bad things will happen to those who murder babies, engage in homosexuality, etc. Ergo, He would never support universal health care.

My guess ... Jesus would support the direct application of medical care between doctor and patient, and between nurse and patient, and between medical supplies and all of, doctor, nurse, and patient. Otherwise, regarding all aspects of what is defined to be “universal health care” -— in that, it is actually a government and bureaucratic boon...doggle -— Jesus would say something about “render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s.”

So, there is what is within you, that you believe is your duty to help another, on the one hand, but the matter of the schemes, greed, government-politico-maneuvering and much, much more ... on the other hand, I doubt that Jesus would favor.

Yet there is a major caveat, which is, that in our world, all human illness manifests from its searching within for, and then finding, what is most vulnerable. So “universal healthcare” as defined by Jesus, is not likely to be close at all, to leftists/liberal/socialist fantasy-bureaucratique.

Why were they fighting the British, instead of counseling their flocks to “render unto King George that which is King George’s”?

The New Testament makes it clear that giving should be done from the heart, freely, without compulsion. Indeed, the case for giving is very stronly made, but it is a matter of the heart, not a matter of force.

Charity comes from giving. Welfare comes from taking.

There is no good in paying taxes except you get to keep from going to jail. It is not a good deed. What you GIVE to help others is a good deed and is what The Lord would approve of. Although I’m sure He would approve of your paying your taxes but, it would not be a Christian good deed.

This is triangulation. These stories are facebook style efforts to direct the conversation. Post enough of the same lie and the fools will believe it.

Remember Rev Wallace during the Hillary vs Obama election cycle? he was there to lie about Christianity.

Jesus is probably the only person capable of providing it.

Ask these Christians if Jesus wants them to pay $2000 out of their income to pay for other peoples healthcare. I’ll bet Jesus becomes a Tea Party member on the spot.

Lots of people are charitable and giving with other peoples money.

Those are all fine books, I’m sure, but the principle behind them directly contradicts your opening position in Post 9 that “So whatever taxes you are assessed, you must pay, if you are a Christian.”.

Many great men of conscience, pastors, preachers, and laymen, struggled with these seemingly mutually exclusive premises, not just during the War for Independence, but the War Between the States, and both World Wars.

Consider the struggles of conscience experienced by Sgt. Alvin York.

Consider also the words of the Battle Hymn of the Republic.

There are good and Godly reasons to defend your loved ones and your homes when they are threatened by a hostile regime.

If Jesus would support universal healthcare then why didn’t he? And who would he have forced to provide it?
