Jesus Would Support Universal Healthcare, Say Most Americans
Christian Post ^ | 07/16/2014 | Morgan Lee

A recent poll suggests that a majority of Americans believe Jesus would have backed universal healthcare. According to a YouGov survey released earlier in July, 55 percent of respondents believe that Christ would have endorsed the issue.

Despite this majority, a slight minority of American Protestants believed that the Jesus they knew would have supported universal healthcare. Only 48 percent of Protestants suggested this, in contrast to the 57 percent of Catholics who argued that their religion's founder would have backed it.

Aside from Jesus, 46 percent of Protestants and 55 percent of Catholics themselves backed the policy.

In addition to studying Christ's followers thoughts on his sentiments surrounding universal healthcare, the study also asked what Americans believed his convictions were on abortion, gay marriage, the death penalty, high taxes on the wealthy, stricter gun laws, and reducing carbon emissions.

Of the six issues mentioned above, the only one which the majority of Americans (52 percent) believed that Jesus might support was reducing carbon emissions. Sixty-four percent of Americans also endorsed them.

Only 20 percent believed that Christ would support abortion, though despite acknowledging this, 48 percent of Americans said they personally approved of it. Thirty-two percent of Americans argued that Christ would support gay marriage, while 48 percent also approved it. Among Protestants, 31 percent backed same-sex marriage and abortion.

Either a bogus poll or they only polled biblically-illiterate Christians.

He woudn’t do such a thing. He’d just heal you. Universal healthcare has nothing to do with healthcare but the idiots that post this nonsense can’t see past their own nose to understand why.

It’s always so amusing when state-controlled media pretends to know what Jesus would do.

Uh, is this “recent poll” equating Hussein Obama with Julius Caesar?

The fact is universal health care already exists. The question of who pays for it is the problem.

i tell you what - we He comes back, we can ask Him.

Until then, I'm not willing to take anyone's word what anyone else would 'do'.

I am truly sick and tired of this tired old discussion: What would Jesus do?

Truth is Jesus disliked government and politics. His message was centered on the Kingdom of God, not this world.

Jesus would say to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, in reply over whether one should pay taxes to the occupying Roman Empire.

This was money taken by threat of force to be used by the Empire to do things that Jesus would NOT approve of.

So whatever taxes you are assessed, you must pay, if you are a Christian.

However, in this Empire, we have the right to make our voices heard and vote accordingly.

The New Testament makes it clear that giving should be done from the heart, freely, without compulsion. Indeed, the case for giving is very stronly made, but it is a matter of the heart, not a matter of force.

He would never approve of the amount of government rules and corruption it came with.

I don’t think they polled any Christians. The ones I know certainly wouldn’t agree with it. If the healthcare really payed for treatment instead of giving you unusually high deductibles with tight restrictions as to what it covers and what it doesn’t and wasn’t designed NOT to pay claims and didn’t build a citizen database and link your info from different agencies and require you to receive something resembling the mark of the beast (which probably won’t happen too soon until they bring it upon us incrementally) it might be okay. What we have here is just another way to soak the masses and collect information on citizens and the liberal lapdogs who don’t need it yet don’t understand any of what I just said...

Health "care" is not the same as health "insurance". The liberal democrats have successfully conflated the terms with the help of the GOP-E liberal republicans. The difference does not register with low-information voters. Jesus may provide "care", but certainly not "insurance". He would be more apt to overturn the insurance salesmen's tables in the Temple.

If Congress passes a law, and the president signs it, that the tax rate is 100%, no deductions, we are legally and morally obliged to pay it?

Can I choose Jesus as my Personal Physician?

His previous medical practice had some impressive results.

AND ... Jesus also won’t allow soldiers or armies or guns — or even weapons to be owned. He also won’t allow ANY FREEDOM OF RELIGION.

And, in terms of our discussions here on this forum, he won’t allow the BILL OF RIGHTS or the US Constitution to be operative.

SO ... I wouldn’t be making comparisons to what Jesus, as the Messiah of Israel, is going to have in his ONE-WORLD GOVERNMENT!

So, most Americans think Jesus would set up a table at the temple and start selling insurance?

Most Americans are dumber than rocks.

For some of the conquered people living under heel of the Roman Empire, this was virtually the case. Their economies had to go entirely underground. When caught, they were punished, tortured, and even executed.

So, the answer is, “Yes”.

The alternative is spelled out in the Declaration of Independence.

Yep. Biblically illiterate, and also lacking critical thinking skills.

Mathew 22:36-40, Jesus says the greatest commandment is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and with all your mind." Then he adds that the second is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. "All the law and the prophets," Jesus said, "hang on these two commandments."

How, exactly, robbing from Peter to pay Paul -- that is, appropriating the labor/money of others to pay for doctor's services for anyone and everyone, said services INCLUDING ABORTION -- the murder of babies -- is fulfilling either of these MOST important commandments, is beyond me. "Loving my neighbor as myself" means RESPECTING the dignity and rights and property of my neighbors as I would have them respect mine, tolerating imperfections and annoyances in my neighbors as I would have them tolerate mine, and being there to HELP THEM when they need me as I would have them be there to HELP ME when I need them. All the while loving GOD and being grateful to Him for including me in His blessings.

When Jesus said "love your neighbor as yourself," he didn't mean neighbors have rights to all your work, labor, and possessions. Only amoral GOVERNMENT interprets His commandment that way.
