The Presbyterian Church USA has voted to endorse Kermit Gosnell. Delegates meeting in Detroit at the 221st General Assembly of the 1.8 millionmember Presbyterian Church (USA) voted down a measure that would have the church endorse care for babies born alive after abortions.
Also Thursday, 78 percent of the PCUSA General Assembly struck down a resolution condemning the killing of babies born alive during abortions, as occurred with notorious abortionist Kermit Gosnell. Initiated by the South Alabama presbytery, it called for inclusion of pro-life Presbyterians and an investigation into doctrinal and financial support of abortion. Dissenters cited pro-abortion stances, while others noted past affirmation of viable babies and reservations in commenting on criminal cases.
One pro-life advocate who serves as a watchdog of mainline Protestant denominations had this to say:
Mainline Protestantism, at least in its official curia, has been liberal for nearly 100 years. But for most of that century it was a thoughtful, dignified liberalism that still roughly adhered to historic Christianitys moral architecture, even if it no longer upheld the core doctrine. But the yonder years of stately Protestantism, at least in the old Mainline, are largely over.
Getting far less attention was the PCUSA General Assemblys overwhelming rejection of legislation that urged a season of reflection on the denominations support for abortion-rights, including its long-time membership in the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC), which opposes any restrictions on abortion. Liberal Mainline Protestantism, starting in the 1960s, began its first major break with traditional Christian ethics by embracing abortion rights, discarding traditional notions about sacred human life in favor of radical autonomous individualism. The Mainlines support for abortion and implied hostility to large families, now compounded by its redefinition of marriage and divorcing of sex from marriage, have all helped to create a culture where the typical Mainline congregation is now largely gray headed and has few if any children.
Of course, some media reports will hail the PCUSAs ostensibly courageous shift leftward as heralding the irresistible tides of history and representing Christianitys future. But after about a half century of continuous decline, neither the PCUSA nor any Mainline denomination can be seriously seen as any barometer of mainstream religious trends, not in the U.S., and even less so around the world. Reportedly many overseas Presbyterian churches, many of them now larger than the PCUSA, are prepared to break ties with the PCUSA over its abandonment of Christian sexual teaching. Some of them already have.
It seems that every far-left lunatic agenda item will be approved by the Presbyterians this week.
I was raised in that church but discovered upon reaching the age of reason that they’re nothing more than a leftwing front group.
I suspect a great many people overlooked the conclusion. Maybe even intentionally.
It is like Satan has entered into these people. How much more can God stand from our country. I am not judging because I sin everyday but this is an example of the end times signs. . . the abortion issue and thumbing the nose at the Lord with regard to Israel. We are in deep trouble as a nation and the headlines keep getting worse and worse and worse. . . . . . . . .
I love this picture. It should be posted in all churches!
Synagogues of Satan.
Why not just drop the facade of Christianity altogether?
Good one!
It might be interesting to know what legislatures in this country belong to this denomination because they certainly have a platform as individual citizens with great name recognition to call them out on it.
IMHO the on the vine rotting of the “mainline” denominations is the cause of so many nondenom/independent churches. Young Christians are the ones fleeing, leaving old liberals to fester in their own heretical stew.
Also take a look at the PCA churches. Packed out with young families, many of whom are refugees from the PC(USA). My own conservative Presbyterian church is mostly young people. At 54 I am one of the old folks in my little flock.
Bunch of heretics.
To 30.
Seems to be more of a cult than a religious sect.
I hope your church doesn’t provide funds to the powers that be. Do you own your own church? Many don’t and the members don’t have a clue. Glad you have such a thriving young congregation.
Well the ol’ pcusa is just frantically hacking away at their own jugular these days.
We are not in the PC(USA). Left them in 1995. We don’t have a church building, yet. We pray to break ground in a couple of years.
Praise the Lord. . .God will provide . . step out in faith! There are so many lukewarm churches it is sickening.
Revelation 3:14-22 ESV
And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation. I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.
I’m looking for the “Humor” tag.
My thoughts turn to this more and more every day. Every day I expect to see God's judgment on our wickedness, and every punishment will be well deserved.
And every day the stock market goes up. I guess sin does pay, at least for a little while.
