EWTN: Global Catholic Television Network (EWTN), a Catholic-themed television network founded in 1980 in a garage studio by a nun, has been denied protection from the HHS contraception mandate following a decision yesterday by Mobile, Ala. District Judge Callie V. Granade. A statement posted on EWTN's website and Facebook page by CEO Michael P. Warsaw expressed his disappointment with the decision and said that EWTN will seek an appeal to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.

Yes really, probably more than you have since being a very active Catholic I run in a very large diversity of Catholics, both faithful and unfaithful. By and large, it’s the case that most regular viewers of EWTN, though I can acknowledge in your own limited personal experience that might not be the case.

I responded to reply #2 in this thread, in which no reference to any sort of televangelist network was made.

What is amusing is that a conservative Christian TV network, is being judicially squeezed here and the same old haters see it as an opportunity to attack Catholicism, rather than support fellow Christians.

And you people think your children and grandchildren can take on the muzzies when they are hear in huge numbers. LOL...heads on pikes for all.

Catholics keep voting for Rats who put people like this in power.

Elections have consequences.

You can bank on this: no one affiliated with the EWTN network voted for any Democrats in the past 30-40 years or so - unless they found a blue dog Dem who was pro-life. EWTN is at the front of the opposition to all things Obama and company!

This isn’t discrimination. Discrimination would be a law that targeted Catholics but everyone else was exempt. “This is a law that says Catholic churches cannot be open for Mass on Sunday. They must have mass on Tuesday. Other religions can still have meetings on their Holy day.”
This is just “Everyone has to follow the same terrible law. No one is exempt for any reason.”

EWTN was founded by Mother Angelica and has total Catholic program.

Yes, it is discrimination against Catholics.

I must disagree with you.

Statement of Michael P. Warsaw, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of EWTN Global Catholic Network, in response to today’s decision by Judge Callie V.S. Granade of Mobile, Ala. denying EWTN protection from the government mandate that it must provide coverage of contraception, abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization as part of its employee health care coverage:

Irondale, AL (EWTN) – “We are extremely disappointed with the decision reached by the court in this case. The opinion issued is clearly inconsistent with the decisions reached in nearly all of the cases decided to date. The fact that the court has dismissed the serious issues of conscience and religious freedom that EWTN has raised is very troubling.

As an organization that was founded by Mother Angelica to uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church, we do not believe that contraception, abortion-inducing drugs and voluntary sterilization should be defined as health care. We simply cannot facilitate these immoral practices. We have no other option but to continue our legal challenge of the mandate. We are making an immediate appeal to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.”

You’re right, I say the same thing, it’s very frustrating when they vote against life and vote for politicians who are against school vouchers and choice and see all the Catholic schools close down.

The US Catholic bishops wanted the law passed. They got 90% of what they wanted.

True, but only half the story. They don't like Mother Angelica nor EWTN. EWTN has succeeded where they failed, after dumping far more money into their failure than Mother Angelica put into EWTN.

“Everyone has to follow the same terrible law. No one is exempt for any reason.”

Islamic groups and the Amish are both exempt from this law.

That’s too bad. Our pastor called Obama’s election “a catastrophe,” and called on us to prepare for (at least) white martyrdom. He did this from the pulpit, too.

Regards,
