1.) An infant is baptized, is raised by believing parents and later when older turns from the faith.
2.) An infant is baptized, has no believing parents to be raised by, and when older doesn't turn from the faith.
Given that the antithesis exists for 1 & 2, wouldn't it be prudent for the priest to baptize the fortunate infant as well as the unfortunate, as either could remain faithful when older, show perseverance against high odds, and no priest knows the future - only God Almighty?
Given that only God knows the future, perhaps withholding baptism isn't an option at all for the priest. If the priest is unsure about 1, 2 or the antithesis for both, should they let God do their baptizing for them if they lack faith?
In your eyes I’m a deceiver or hopelessly ignorant rube.... Why have a discussion with anyone with your superior intellect and knowledge.
You post a King James 1611 Translation and then slam me over a New American Standard translation?
Titus 3:5 ... not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, he saved us through the bath of rebirth (baptism) and renewal by the holy Spirit.
Here's what the bible really says...
Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
It is NOT a bath that regenerates us...Read the verse...It's the regeneration that washes us, not water...And there's not an ounce of water any where near regeneration...And what is regeneration???
1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
It ain't rub a dub dub, 3 Catholics in a tub...The baptism that saves us is a clear conscience toward God; repentance...
In the Religion forum, on a thread titled Can an infant be baptized, be raised by believing parents & later turn from the faith?, ealgeone wrote:
“guess the thief on the cross got a raw deal then...what with not be able to be baptized and all.”
See what guessing gets you? This is why Sola Scriptura fails, it is made up of guesswork and results in all sorts of goofy guesses.
ROTFLMAO!!!!
You mean like this guy???
2Co 10:10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
That may be the Catholic view but that is not God's view...God doesn't need to see anything...
Act 1:24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
1Sa 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
God knows your heart before you turn to him and after you turn to him...God doesn't ask any Christians to prove their faith...What he does is give us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit so we can do things that please God...
They’re not all gonna fit...
It’s okay, I wouldn’t let them in it.
Mormons baptize others based on the faith of a different person. How does that differ from Catholic teaching?
More to the point of your statement though: Southern Baptists claim that 25% of SBC churches baptized no one in the past year.
I suppose that depends on the reason you're baptizing the baby in the first place. What do you think is being accomplished by this act of baptism?
The proxy baptism for Mormonism is for someone who died and isn’t there.
As I said above the baby is there, the parents are there and the godparents are there.
There is no “proxy” baptism in Catholicism. It is a real Baptism.
Nor is it denied that instead of an individual burial for each, they were all ignominiously consigned to a mass grave.
Those are facts that even the RCC doesn't deny.
What remains unsatisfactory is WHY, genius.
What people on the left, right,, center, Prots and even some Catholics now ask why in the heck were they not each given a proper burial.
This mass grave crap is a travesty, as no one denies that the RCC couldn't afford individual graves.
And the RCC has yet to show ANY proof that they were ALL baptized.
Do you like it that they ended up like this?
I imagine some are wondering....
A sad comment indeed.
Nope. No guessing involved. Making the point he was not baptized yet Christ said he would be wih Him in paradise without benefit of baptism.
Or engage in Ad Hom, as that appears to be Narcissus’ old standby here on this thread.....
So Titus 3:5 isn’t what the Bible really says? Because it says Baptism is regeneration.
Unless “the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,” somehow isn’t Baptism.
But Baptism isn’t water.
Baptism is water and God’s word/command.
So both “baptism saves us” and “water doesn’t save us” are 100% correct.
Hmmm.
Mormons have an addition to Genesis to Malachi and Matthew to Revelation - the Pearl of Great Price.
And Roman Catholics, just like Mormons, have additional books that they add to the scriptures with...
