For the first time in history, Islamic prayers and readings from the Quran will be heard at the Vatican on Sunday, in a move by Pope Francis to usher in peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Francis issued the invitation to Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas during his visit last week to Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority.
Abbas, Peres, and Francis will be joined by Jewish, Christian and Islamic religious leaders, a statement released by Peress spokesperson said, according to the Times of Israel.
Holy See officials on Friday said the evening prayers would be a pause in politics and had no political aim other than to rekindle the desire for Israeli-Palestinian peace at the political and popular level, according to the Associated Press.
Low expectations
The Vatican will broadcast a live feed of the event to viewers across the world.
However, expectations for the event should be kept low, according to Rev. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the custodian of Catholic Church property in the Holy Land.
[No-one should think] peace will suddenly break out on Monday, or that peace is any closer, AP reported him as saying.
On Friday, the Pope met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and discussed ways of promoting peace and stability in Asia the Vatican said in a statement.
So, when will Christians and Jews be saying prayers and reading from their sacred books in Mecca and Medina?
Ping.
Read the comments. There are quite a few Roman Catholics, errr, well PROTESTING!
According to the Quaran, that consecrated the Vatican to Islam.
Do we have an anti-Pope or just a fool as Pope?
Time will tell.
What we have is the Pope for the ends time, that’s what we got.
No worries. It's all the fault of the translation and the cherry-picking media. If you read his comments in the original language and in context, it all makes sense.
I know that the twitter account has appeared in posts. I looked at Vatican.va for a feedback spot and did not find it.
Anyone?
One thing that the Roman Empire was always hard at work with: propaganda.
When you the Abomination that brings Desolation in the Temple of the Lord, flee.
Doing this makes the church (in muslim eyes) a mosque. Never to go back.
Is the Pope mad, or just evil?
Notice it is Peres and NOT Bibi that is present at this unholy event. Peres never hesitates to sell Israel up the river! There will be NO peace until Jesus comes.
This shouldn’t be surprising to anybody who has done a good study on Biblical Eschatology.
In the last days, you will only be dependent on your relationship with God. All those institutions that you could once rely on for support for your faith will have turned away from God and will be used against the faithful and that includes the RC church.
The Pope is a liberal. Liberals across the world have long worked to rule.
I have long believed that all the things we see are designed to disspirit us all to the point of saying to hell with everything and just letting them win.
I say this with total honesty. It will not surprise me if this idiot comes out and accepts homosexuals openly, accepts abortion, accepts euthanasia and then tells the world that Jesus was just a metaphor.
I think that is a bride too far. I try to support the Pope but holding prayers at the Vatican is not going to do anything for the Fakestinian problem.
As a Catholic I am outraged!!
Islam is evil and as far as I’m concerned he’s legitimizing it. And broadcast over the world? I’m furious!!
Dumb stupid ignorant idea.
When the bearded savages start saying Christian and Jewish prayers, THEN peace may be on the way.
Right now, they are laughing in their dirty beards as the Pope makes a fool of himself.
**According to the Quaran, that consecrated the Vatican to Islam.**
Anyone have a Koran quote on this?
Bishop Sheen in the fifties did say that Rome and Mecca would be united by their common worship of Mary.
Then he is not a Christian.
