Pope Francis privately visited the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome this morning to pray and entrust to the Virgin Mary his pilgrimage to the Holy Land. After 15 minutes of meditation and prayer before the image of Mary known as Salus Populi Romani, Pope Francis offered a bouquet of white and yellow roses at the feet of the Virgin. Since the beginning of his papal ministry in March 2013, this is the eighth visit Pope Francis has made to the Virgin Mary, under whose protection he has placed his pontificate. Speaking to Vatican Radio, the archpriest of the basilica, Spanish Cardinal Santos Abril y Castello, explained that Pope Francis sees Mary as a maternal guide and inspiration for his actions.

Jesus set the table. Jesus proclaimed the Father.
Himself the Son, why declare having a Father, if there is no mother to this “family”-like description?
If God Almighty was so meticulous and exacting for the tabernacle that in the Old Testament would house the manna from Heaven, the wooden staff of Moses, and the 10 Commandments, and seen again by John, as his first vision, of the portal of Heaven, (in the Book of Revelation), then certainly the perpetual virgin Mary would be equally and immaculately and exactly formed to bear the Son of God.
This two mommies snark is disrespectful and unworthy of the discussion, here. I am not freaking out and getting hysterical with you, but if you can’t handle discussion any other way, then consider persuing your style with someone else who will
tolerate it. That’s a hint, obviously.
By what rite are you Catholic, I inquire.
Look it up!
After the love which we owe Jesus Christ, we must give the chief place in our heart to the love of His Mother Mary. ~ Alphonsus Liguori
For Reflection:
Why is this so? The Church teaches there are three forms of praise latria, hyperdulia, and dulia. Latria refers to adoration and worship and is reserved for God alone. Dulia is the praise given to all of those who have achieved sanctity and accomplished much for the Kingdom of God. Hyperdulia is dulia to the superlative degree. This is reserved for Mary. What distinguishes Mary from every other saint, so much so that she is titled Queen of All Saints? How do all of the quotes we have discussed this month point to the hyperdulia owed to her?
Your scriptural example is not a greeting by an Archangel, as in a name. Simon name was changed to “Peter”. Mary was titled full of grace at the first encounter with Archangel Gabriel.
Dear Salvation,
I accuse you of nothing. I am answering the question you asked me. All I am responding to is your post.
And Luke 1:26 and onward tells us that Mary is no ordinary person.
God bless.
Where did I say that Mary was above Jesus?
That was a saint who said that. I was explaining the latin words of latria, dulia and hyperdulia, that’s all.
Something to think about —
What if God at the creation already knew that he was sending his Son, Jesus, and already knew at that time that Mary would be the human mother through the Holy Spirit?
Could it have happened that way? With God there is no A to B timeline as humans have. With God 1000 years could be the blink of an eye.
Anyone who truly knows the Catholic faith becomes a Catholic.
Since you put that forward you must believe it as well. The chief place in your heart should belong to Yashua. Not a mortal.
Pleas forgive me but I know the history of the Catholic faith as it pertained to Jews and Israel down through the ages.
Roman Catholic. How about you?
We can pray to God, Jesus the Holy Spirit, Mary and numerous other saints if we want to. All separately or all at the same time if we want to. Will we go to hell if we do this?
Why does this bother you?
Does that history include the Crucifixion of Christ?
What part of “after” do you not understand?
That’s what it says.
I believe Liguori was expressing gratitude to Mary for her great gift to all mankind, in her fiat— that without dear Mary saying, “let it be done unto me...”, in this gracious consent that she declared of her own free will, the world would not know her son, Jesus, the Christ.
Liguori by saying that, would not and did not replace or reject a first love and worshiping love for our Triune God with love for Mary, but as our first intercessor for us to Jesus, our Savior and King, which his writings attest, or else he would not be a declared saint.
Catholics venerate Mary for her position with God but do not worship Mary. Gabriel said to Mary, “the Lord is ‘with’ you”.
I inquired by what “rite” are you Catholic? Baptism only? Confirmation?
Except that's NOT Biblical. It was a translation error in the Latin Vulgate. The Hebrew actually says in Genesis 3:15:
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: he shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Mary doesn't crush Satan, Jesus does. Satan doesn't lie in wait for or crush Mary's heel, he goes after Jesus. The enmity was and will be between the devil and the posterity of Eve, mankind. But it is JESUS who will crush/destroy the devil finally. Mary has no such power.
