Shouldn't Bible-believing church leaders be speaking up on "sainthood"? (vanity)

Posted on 04/27/2014 3:47:28 PM PDT by Faith Presses On

With it so much in the news right now that the Catholic Church is making two former Popes "saints." shouldn't Bible-believing Christians, and those in leadership in particular, be pointing out the Bible truth on who is a saint is? The media won't do this themselves, and the Catholic use of "saint" has caused a lot of ignorance on this most important matter.

Ok, so how do I get that person to stop harrassing me in email then? They just sent me another one.

I gotta tell you, "that person" is sure giving others of the same denomination on this forum a very bad name right now in their harassment of me.

(Setting aside all armaments...)

I think what Faith was saying was not against the Catholic Church. Faith knows this is how Catholics think and practice.

Instead, I believe Faith’s issue was with Protestants not countering it from Scripture, as Scripture (both yours and mine) specifically states all Christians are “saints.” This makes anything the Catholic Church is doing appear redundant at best, and unscriptural at worst.

My two cents.

Simple ignore them. Better yet, delete them without reading.

However, if you do read one which contains profanity or a threat, let me know by Freepmail.

When the headline screams hatred towards millions of other Christians it is difficult to ignore.

>> You wouldn’t have a Bible or the “Word”, had it not been for the Catholic Church. They pretty much own the intellectual property...<<

It was God who preserves His word for us. It is God who uses whomever He wills to get the job done. You may want to keep in mind He used Judas, Herrod, Balaam’s donkey and others to further His will. God gets the credit and the glory. NOT the Catholic Church.

This is from usconservative's homepage: "But what really takes the cake for me is when Conservatives “turn on each other” unnecessarily."

What about Christians turning on each other? You two need to apologize to each other, at the very least for hurting each other's feelings, and give an on-line hug of peace. Remember, we are all Christians!

So glad we agree on the Scripture.

The Commissioning of the Disciples.*
16
f The eleven* disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
17
* When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
18
* g Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19
h Go, therefore,* and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit,
20
i teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.* And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

In truth, we are all struggling, believing sinners who are trying just to be the “little s saints” . The “big S Saints” does not come until we are home with God.

I’ve recently decided that the religion mod is also anti-Catholic. It’s frustrating what is deleted and what is not. Last summer somebody had to ping JimRob to a thread, and he told the anti-Catholics to knock it off. I really wish they would create their own site to discuss their issues instead of perverting FR.

We should have a thread that leads to pointless arguments between Freeper Catholics and Protestants. It’s been at least 10 or 15 minutes since the last one. Another stain on Free Republic. Congratulations.

Catholics believe what they want to believe, that the words of their Popes should be canonized as a continuation of the Bible, and we can’t stop them. We must encourage folks from listening to a different Gospel, where salvation can be lost only to be restored by Sacraments performed by the Catholic Church.

“the Catholic use of “saint” has caused a lot of ignorance on this most important matter.”

The Catholic Church...has caused a lot of ignorance on many topics, sainthood being just one. Christians are personally responsible in this day and age where we all have access to the Bible and can fact check whatever teaching we are exposed to.

What I am happy about is the many things the Catholic Church has right and that we agree The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one, Jesus poured out his Glory to become a man and be sacrificed for OUR sins, and he arose on the third day to show us there is life after death and that He goes to make a place for us and will come back to take us there. The saving grace He offers is available to all who will confess they are a sinner, that Jesus Christ is LORD!, and accept His gift as we repent and turn away from our sinful ways to a life of loving God.

The Apostle Peter, they call St.Peter, their first Pope, wrote we should be ready to give answers for our hope, and that is the job of ALL the saints, the saints being all the Christians that make up His Church, His bride.

“Pope Lists Criteria for Causes of Canonization”

As a Catholic myself:

There are millions if not billions of saints. I’ve known a few personally. The list of saints recognized by the Church is not an exclusive list. I don’t think it was ever presented that way.
