Shouldn't Bible-believing church leaders be speaking up on "sainthood"? (vanity)

Posted on 04/27/2014 3:47:28 PM PDT by Faith Presses On

With it so much in the news right now that the Catholic Church is making two former Popes "saints." shouldn't Bible-believing Christians, and those in leadership in particular, be pointing out the Bible truth on who is a saint is? The media won't do this themselves, and the Catholic use of "saint" has caused a lot of ignorance on this most important matter.

**You wouldn’t have a Bible or the “Word”, had it not been for the Catholic Church. They pretty much own the intellectual property...**

They own nothing. God uses whatever or whoever he wants to preserve his word. Elijah was God’s prophet; his ‘word’ messenger to Israel. Yet, he used the ravens (unclean bird) to ‘preserve’ Elijah. And later God used the Gentile (unclean) woman in Zarephath to ‘preserve’ him as well.

Fascinating. So you believe Protestants are correct in their faith?

Because if you say otherwise, you’ve just proven yourself ignorant and in need of getting your “nose docked,” by your own attestation.

2 Timothy 4:1-4 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

Bible believing churches adopt their mother church’s gregorian calendar, sabbath day, holy days and greco roman latinized name for the Messiah of Israel-
roman catholic church does a couple things different from her daughter churches.. sainthood process is one... big deal..

Let her be..

Nevertheless as to what you have been told in error...at the moment of your death, you will find out you are a Catholic, and have to answer for your actions as your life whizzes in front of you.

Not a chance. The word *Catholic* does not even appear in Scripture.

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

Read some of the Near Death Experience threads if you don’t believe me.

That proves nothing.

The Church doesn’t teach that popes are sinless. So the existence of sinful clergy doesn’t represent a contradiction of Church teaching or any of Christ’s teachings recorded in the Bible.

But the Bible does call the church, “the pillar and foundation of truth.” Jesus also tells us to “listen to the church.”

If that’s true then why are they having this discussion right now over making two previous popes saints?

For one thing, they led exemplary lives.

Do not make this thread "about" individual Freepers. That is also a form of "making it personal."

Also, do not discuss Freepmails on-thread on the Religion Forum.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

When you read Acts 16:33... is there something in your version of the Bible that specifically omits children below a specific age?

I follow the RC faith (admittedly not as close as I perhaps should). I try to keep my nose out of other people’s business until they stick their nose in someone else’s business.

Holier than thou folks who criticize others is a prime example of a “judge not lest ye be judged” failure.

I give Salvation and the other Catholics a hard time, but they are merely restating what the Catholic church has told them. They really are good people and don't understand things from outside of their reality.

Sadly, the general concept of “once a Catholic, always a Catholic,” also follows other religious entities, including Islam with being born to a Muslim. Those people might kill you if you “left,” but you don't likely need to worry about that with Salvation and the others.

You know what is right and true. In that light, what others think should not matter. Continue walking in your Faith in such a way as to get the prize.

“But the Bible does call the church, Jesus also tells us to “listen to the church.””

Context is everything.

“the pillar and foundation of truth” - the Church is to hold up and undergird the TRUTH - God’s revelation. The church is not the truth.

“Jesus also tells us to “listen to the church” - ONLY in the context of the church resolving a dispute between two Christians.

You'll not convince me of that. I view that type of person as a no-good smarmy busy-body who thinks they're somehow better than everyone else because of their jacked-up, twisted belief system.

Thankfully not all Catholics are like that type of person.
