“...when the Prodigal Son returned home”
Ah, yes. But then there was the Older Brother.
He is risen, all is well. Happy Easter!
30 people at my parish last night, 23 baptized, receive Holy Communion and Confirmation, 7 received into full Communion with the Church.
**Archdiocese of Washington Has Largest Number in Its History**
I think this phenomenon is repeating itself in other dioceses also.
The people joining the Church don’t have to be from non-Catholic Christian groups. They may very well be atheists and others. If an atheist joins your group I’ll rejoice at a soul joining Christendom
Thanks I missed that part.
These do seem higher generally.
WOW!
We have the advantage of being a university parish. It’s really not reasonable to compare us to the average urban/suburban congregation.
So your haul is impressive!
Just visited Johnson City, Tennessee a few months ago. Had to drive a little while into the foothills to get to the local Catholic parish.
It was worth the trip....
For the Greater Glory of God
Ask how many are renouncing use of artificial birth control.
Amen to that.
Excellent!
However, we don't even give a final test before the Easter Sacraments, let alone keep them under moral surveillance. So it's hard to say how many of them may still be contraceptors, egotists, usurers, dishonoring to their parents, violators of the Lord's Day Rest, or gossips.
I'd venture, though, that they're better on contraception than the cradle-catholic twentysomethings. Actually, that's a fairly safe bet.
They know they have to accept the total faith and morals of the Catholic Church to be baptized.
They've been told that. Unlikely they take it seriously. Younger cradle Catholics have simply heard it more times.
It's simply amazing how you can know this without knowing any of our RCIA'ers here, not one, and without a rag of evidence.
You know rash judgment is a sin, right? Or are you one of these "catholics" who's a little vague on the moral law?
Of a particular individual, probably. But as you conceded, I don't know a single one.
The pro-life movement in the United States has been an unqualified disaster. A small decrease in the number of operating abortion facilities (maybe) has been replaced by a tsunami of easily available contraceptives, and worse by arbortifacients pushed by the biggest and more accessible retailers (OTC now, right?). No question the total number of surgical abortions plus Plan B murders is at an all time high. I see these feel-good pro-life threads about some abortion clinic closing. If these people were honest, they would admit there is not much for Catholics or pro-lifers to crow about.
Fortunately there are people like you teaching faith and morality to new Catholics. Maybe some do assimilate the message. But in this time of the world being given over to Lucifer, we are overall losing not winning.
