Having worked in Catholic church music ministry for nearly 40 years basically his entire adult life Mike McMahon thought he knew the landscape and his place in it. As a gay person, all was fine as long as he was discreet.
And that worked for him even in the conservative Roman Catholic Diocese of Arlington, Va., where he was employed for about 30 of those years as music director at several parishes. In that time, McMahon, who has three graduate degrees in theology, also served as president of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, the national body for liturgical music leaders in the Catholic Church.
Then came same-sex marriage, the topic that has roiled traditional religion and rocked the dont ask, dont tell status quo so common in houses of worship and religious schools.
Last summer, McMahon, 62, was fired as music director at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington after news of his marriage reached the pastor, the Rev. Lee Roos
Read on to learn why.
What was the purpose of this article in the Washington Post? Does anyone have any idea?

...all together now...three cheers for the ‘ spirit of Vatican II’...
They havent been around for 2000 years by being flippant and caving to every political wind that blows by them.
...as evidenced, I take it, from Roncalli’s call for ecumenical council, for the purposes of adressing ‘the modern world’...
The church stands as a bastion of God against willfull sin.
FWIW he came up in the church at a time when homosexuality was an acceptable practice among the priesthood.
...please reconcile these two statements, which you used in the same paragraph...
When the Catholic Church decides doctrine based on popular vote, the gates of hell will prevail.
Phil Robertson, and all he said was that it is sin. Hate the sin. love the sinner. Not a thing wrong with what he said. It needed saying. Still does.
I believe that There are born homosexuals and those who had it trust upon them by the liberal sickness.
There are some people who no matter what you do will be that way.
It is those people I wish for them to find peace, just don’t proselytize the young and I won’t try to turn them. Make it there dirty little secret, and keep it secret.
....who had it thrust upon them
Quote - understand that the illness of homosexuality is never going to go away
I have always felt sorry for these poor folks. I dont think they should be persecuted either mentally or physically. Let them live and do whatever they do behind closed doors.
Revelation 21:7-8
King James Version (KJV)
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
‘Behind closed doors’ doesn’t save them...it destroys them.... homosexuality can be overcome.. all sin and abomination can be..
I don’t agree. I believe in live and let live just as long as they don’t rub their perversions in me or my families faces.
You know sometime you know when they are kids that they will grow up different. It’s a cruel joke on them but its real.
This is not a “new” test. It’s simply a very old temptation fostered by the fallen LIAR.

That will never happen.
Homosexual acts are a sin, and therefore can be repented of, renounced, etc. My point was that the claim that the Church is running around hunting down and persecuting homosexuals is ridiculous, since unless they are committing the sin (which is not simply living with a person of the same sex, but having sexual relations with that person), the Church is not involved. Even a person who for one reason or another is inclined or thinks he is inclined to be attracted to the persons of the same sex, as long as he resists and doesn’t do anything about it, hasn’t committed a sin. I don’t think homosexuality is innate, but people may have been emotionally conditioned through bad childhood experiences or one thing or another to avoid the opposite sex and thus will have trouble forming healthy relationships.
However, if that person decides to identify and define himself as “gay” and therefore claim that this supposed “sexual identity” trumps Christian teachings, he’s essentially prepared his will to accept sin and in fact to deny that it even is sin. It’s this “gay identity” that he thinks permits him to engage in the logical impossibility of “same-sex marriage” as well as to violate all of the Church’s other teachings on sex and chastity. So the Church has got to be very firm against this, and I think that people in authority have not been very clear about this.
Looks as if they gave him the bum rush.
I disagree.
By allowing the Left to sugar-coat it with euphemisms such as "marriage equality", and "gay marriage" and "love", we enable the brainwashing of the common folk, who know in their hearts that a man masturbating inside another man's $4!7hole is not a marital act.
I guarantee you that Catholic gay marriage will never, ever happen. These folks are feeling their oats after so many recent victories. They think they have the whole world with them in everything that they want. In this frame of mind, they will inevitably push their agenda further than it can go.
The refusal of the Catholic church at this point will be fuel for the entire anti-Christian movement, but we knew this would happen eventually, maybe not so fast.
I wonder if it will not end up like the abortion issue, with the Church firmly against it and many Catholics, especially high profile Catholic people supporting it. I don’t see Nancy Pelosi and other Catholic’s that support abortion being corrected in any way. Nancy supports gay marriage as well.
Yes, of course, and there will also be breakaway “Catholic” churches allowing these ceremonies.
Thank G-d for eternal things. I feel these days like I am living in a shredded culture, like a pillow fight gone on until the pillows burst. But amid the feathers, we have one another and the Lord.
Mike, getting married isn’t making-the-beast-in-church-during-Mass indiscreet, but it’s still kind of hard to hide for very long.
The purpose of this Washington comPost piece was to demonstrate that the big, bad, nathty meanies in the backwards, superstitious, never-to-be-sufficiently besmirched Roman Cafflick Church are (yet again) oppressing the poor, downtrodden, victimized gay people who must therefore have Big Brother Government step in and quash those filthy Cafflicks ...
Or something like that.
