I wonder if Peter knew at this time that many more things would be coming along that we Christians would be told were 'needed'?

In some contexts, that is called "up selling". Get them to spend extra on optional equipment, features, and extended warranty.

Or--- sort-of like a car rental outfit insisting one need buy insurance for the rental car (for an extra $15-$20 per day) when one's own vehicle insurance (that car in the shop since some other car crashed into it) covers car rentals already -- no extra charge.
