Since all of this discussion is entirely theoretical, let me ask you and others a practical question.
Suppose that, in an imaginary future, you knew for certain that the Supreme Court of the day would declare a Federal statute constitutional banning all abortions beyond 12 weeks, except for pregnancies resulting from rape and incest.
Further suppose you were a congressman or U.S. Senator.
Would you vote for the law?
That really is a brilliant question, Jim Noble.
I expect that answer to that question from most people on this page is no.
All or nothing, but mostly nothing, since they will never get all.
It astounds me that people can’t or won’t go to these mothers and convince them to bear these babies. They do not want to take the time to obtain consent nor put forth the effort.
They just want to use force of law.
This tells me they don’t really want to be involved in the pain of such decisions. They just want it taken care of for them by some other device.
I find this highly problematic. It shows me a bunch of self righteous people who are beating their chests and touting a fantasy solution that will never happen while openly ignoring the only proper course of action, which is obtaining the consent of the mother that was originally denied her by her rapist.
I would rather vote against all abortions. At least the law you imagined here would be a first step.
