Bishop Ackermann Sets Himself Openly Against Rome: Sex Before Marriage is Not a Mortal Sin

The Bishop of Trier would completely change sexual ethics of the Catholic Church: New marriage after divorce is no "permanent mortal sin." Homosexuality for the bishop no longer "unnatural".

Trier (kath.net) Catholics who hold to the teaching of the Catholic Church, currently have it difficult and can expect no support from their pastors in Germany. Several German-speaking bishops have, it appears, firmly resolved to remake the moral teaching of the Catholic Church again. Compared to the Rhein Main Presse the Bishop of Trier, Stephan Ackermann said, now that it no longer fits the times when "a new marriage after divorce is regarded as permanent state of mortal sin".

This is a Reformation movement headed in the wrong direction. Let them break away and join the Episcopalian Church. They can all go to Hell together.

So much for unity of thought on the other side of the Tiber.

On a separate note the cathedrals in Trier are quite impressive.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

2332 Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul. It especially concerns affectivity, the capacity to love and to procreate, and in a more general way the aptitude for forming bonds of communion with others.

2360 Sexuality is ordered to the conjugal love of man and woman. In marriage the physical intimacy of the spouses becomes a sign and pledge of spiritual communion. Marriage bonds between baptized persons are sanctified by the sacrament.

2361 "Sexuality, by means of which man and woman give themselves to one another through the acts which are proper and exclusive to spouses, is not something simply biological, but concerns the innermost being of the human person as such. It is realized in a truly human way only if it is an integral part of the love by which a man and woman commit themselves totally to one another until death."

Tobias got out of bed and said to Sarah, "Sister, get up, and let us pray and implore our Lord that he grant us mercy and safety." So she got up, and they began to pray and implore that they might be kept safe. Tobias began by saying, "Blessed are you, O God of our fathers. . . . You made Adam, and for him you made his wife Eve as a helper and support. From the two of them the race of mankind has sprung. You said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone; let us make a helper for him like himself.' I now am taking this kinswoman of mine, not because of lust, but with sincerity. Grant that she and I may find mercy and that we may grow old together." And they both said, "Amen, Amen." Then they went to sleep for the night.

By all the rules and canons of the Church, he has just excommunicated himself.

So much for unity of thought on the other side of the Tiber.

With at least 2,942 (perhaps upwards of 8,000 these days) idiosyncrasies within Roman Catholicism with more springing up every day (possibly as many as 440,000!), and every single one giving their own unique and contradictory interpretation of the Bible, it was bound to happen.

This man is a moral heretic. The Church actually has a word for this: "heresiarch."

And the Church never said, "Where the heresiarch is, there is the Catholic Church."

I think money is a factor here. Isn’t Germany where you have to pay taxes that go to the Church, if you are a registered member? A lot of people are deciding they don’t want to pay the tax and are opting out of it or filling out paperwork to officially quit. I’m sure the Bishops of Germany would like to keep their revenue stream, and, of course, their headcount, and thus have an incentive to bend the theology to suit the people. The Bishops should call for an end to state support, so they are not tempted this way. Will they? Not unless they get some huge amount of prayers going their way.

It is said that the road to hell is paved with the skulls of bishops. As a Catholic, I am realizing these people need massive amounts of prayer because the temptations to act like a well-entrenched bigshot instead of a servant of Christ are huge.

"This man is a moral heretic"

I would have to conclude that the Pope and the Magisterium do not agree with you. To conclude otherwise would mean that the Pope is allowing heresy to be openly spouted by a Bishop. Perhaps the Pope would benefit from your opinion?

And how long until this too, be blamed on Martin Luther (dang him just dang that man! it's all his fault) and the Reformation?

You are still suited up, I hope. And no, I'm not talking about the athletic supporter and 'cup' one needs specially for personal protection when entering this forum, but instead, am speaking of that which Paul advised all should put on, and wear.

[Roman] Catholics too, need (daily?) put on this same suit, for the 'spirit of the world' is against us all.

Ephesians 6

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Don't understand Catholic definitions between "sin" and "mortal sin," as an evangelical Protestant.

I know of sin and the "unforgivable sin" as defined in the Bible.

If this Catholic Bishop is claiming that pre-marital sex (fornication) isn't the same as adultery, etc. he is lying hoping to "gain the approval of men over God," delusional, has never read and understood scripture or doesn't believe God nor His Laws!

As I said, I don't understand the Catholic terms of "mortal sin" as compared to "sin," but if this statement comes from him, he is hoping to keep popular with his position to whitewash sin to become popular to today's (and throughout all time) sinners in his flock.

Nope, we, the sinners, hate to think of what we do as sin, we'd love to remove God from His lofty position and make up the rules ourselves, that's why we needed a Savior, to prevent us from being cast into Hell with the king of all Liars, Satan!

"Within Roman Catholicism" is a bit of an equivocal expression. Using the Catechism as a standard, this heresiarch is not "within Roman Catholicism."

It's like saying, "After John Fisher's beheading in 1535, 100% of the English bishops within Roman Catholicism were Anglicans."
