Catholic woman awaiting execution for blasphemy under sharia pleads with Pope Francis for support
American Thinker ^ | January 6, 2014 | Thomas Lifson

Pope Francis has declared that "authentic Islam and the proper reading of the Koran are opposed to every form of violence," but the religious and civil authorities in Pakistan, the second most populous Islamic state, seem to disagree. Asia Bibi, a Catholic woman imprisoned and awaiting execution in Pakistan for "blasphemy," has just written to the Holy Father in an attempt to garner support. Jihad Watch reports (hat tip Atlas Shrugs):

Asia Bibi is in prison awaiting execution on false accusations of blasphemy. Only God can free her because Christians in the West don't dare to speak out on her behalf: "Talk about extreme, militant Islamists and the atrocities that they have perpetrated globally might undercut the positive achievements that we Catholics have attained in our inter-religious dialogue with devout Muslims." -- Robert McManus, Roman Catholic Bishop of Worcester, Massachusetts, February 8, 2013

So Asia Bibi and other Pakistani Christians accused of blasphemy have no friend, no protector, and no spokesman.

Good for Pope Francis. Someone let me know when the muzzies accept this interpretation of authentic islam.

Does anyone have a cite a reference for this alleged quote? hard for me to believe that even Francis is this wide of the mark.

It is from his recent encyclical. This thread might interest you:

Pope Francis hasn't written any encyclicals. This was an Apostolic Exhortation, which Cardinal Burke says contains no definitions of doctrine and is not a part of the papal magistgerium.

Burke: "Not Part of the Papal Magisterium" (Link)

It was indeed a stupid thing for Pope Francis to day. Remember when in 2006 (the Regensberg speech) Pope Benedict asked, in an academic philosophical forum, whether Islamic doctrine had roots in the Logos (Reason) --- and the Islamosphere's response was rioting on 3 continents and 19 people dead, including an elderly nun who cared for orphans, who was shot in the back.

Magdi Cristiano Allam and Pope Francis should have a good, long talk.

You’re right. I knew it wasn’t an encyclical, but for some reason that’s the word that comes to me....it’s probably the fact that both start with the letter E.

Maybe Raymond Ibrahim could help clue him in.

It’s not stupid. It’s not in line with Traditional Catholic teaching. Once again, when you compare what he says to what Traditional popes say about Islam and Mohammed, you see glaring differences.

Pakistan: Nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

What is the Pope smoking?

The Koran is full of violence and Mohammad murdered many people and he's a pedophile to boot. I don't know what the pope is reading, but it's not the Koran.

Raymond Ibrahim would be excellent. And/or Robert Spencer. I believe they’re both Catholic, too.

Robert Spencer is Catholic and was invited to speak at Kolbe Academy (an excellent Catholic classical school/homeschool program in Napa), but was disinvited by the bishop due to Muslim pressure.

"Bishop cancels "foremost Catholic expert on Islam in our country" from Catholic conference, but Kolbe Academy stands firm, will still host Robert Spencer talks"

Someone should gently and respectfully share this enlightening book with Pope Francis:

I guess my point was that the issue is MORE than stupidity. Francis is not a stupid man.
