“What should be different about a Mormon Christmas?” [Why Joseph Smith's birthday! Of course!]

SNIP

This special season has greater importance for the Latter-day Saints than for others because we not only observe the birthday of the Savior but also the birthday of our Prophet, Joseph Smith.

Joseph Smith, the great Prophet chosen by our Heavenly Father to usher in the last dispensation, was born on December 23, 1805, just two days before December 25, which the world observes as the birthday of Jesus Christ.

December 23 should be a day of great importance in every Latter-day Saint home, a day of remembering and honoring one of the great prophets of God, a day to pay tribute to a man whose life and mission has had a tremendous influence on the lives of every one of us.

True Christianity preaches the cross of Christ.

Mormonism substitutes a golden idol for the cross of Christ.

I think I speak for others, in saying that these Daily Obsessionals are far, far from being any sort of an attraction.

Your FReeper mind-reading skills aside, speaking of "obsession", it's hilarious that you mormonism defenders get your garmies in a bunch over a few dozen FReepers posting the TRUTHS from mormon sources when the mormon leaders are "obsessing" over the numbers of mormon missionaries going about the world and spreading the lie that the only way to salvation is through arcane rituals in mormon temples!

Number of mormon missionaries serving 2013

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Tuesday that the number of full-time missionaries has reached an all-time high of 75,000.

Since President Thomas S. Monson's announcement in October regarding age requirements for missionary service, a surge of young men and women in the LDS church have applied to serve a mission, pushing the numbers from 58,500 in October to the newly announced 75,000.

The Deseret News previously reported that the number of young men and women applying to serve missions jumped nearly 500 percent soon after the change, which led to the opening of 58 new missions, now totaling 405. The growing numbers also prompted the opening of a Missionary Training Center in Mexico.

In May, LDS Church Spokeswoman Ruth Todd said the church estimated more than 85,000 full-time missionaries would be serving by Fall."

Joey Smith had raped a young girl

I think 'raped' may be a little strong.

At the time (March 24, 1832), Joseph and Emma and their five year-old twins were living with John Johnson, who had four grown sons and a 16-year old daughter, Marinda.

According to Marinda's brother, Luke, who went on to become a LDS apostle, and to Clark Braden, Marinda's brother Eli led the mob because he believed Joseph Smith had committed sexual improprieties with Marinda.

I don't believe he was accused of raping Marinda Johnson.

Smith was a married man, older than Marinda. He was claiming to be a Prophet of God, and performing "sexual improprieties" with a young girl was seen as beyond the pale then (and now) and to many in that crowd punishment was called for.

Smith was a horndog.

I was addressing the issue of rape. Of the original journals contemporary to the time, and the later writings of those who were present, I don’t know of any that accuse Joseph Smith of raping Marinda Johnson.

I’m hardly a Mormon defender. Never been a Mormon.

I’m like a marketing consultant, and this daily obsessional is the worst kind of marketing campaign, imaginable.

Another religion war thread...

Here's a history lesson for you -- about an 8th century "religion war" re: the Battle of Tours...pretty much Christians vs. Muslims:

"Later Christian chroniclers and pre-20th century historians praised Charles Martel as the champion of Christianity, characterizing the battle as the decisive turning point in the struggle against Islam, a struggle which preserved Christianity as the religion of Europe; according to modern military historian Victor Davis Hanson, 'most of the 18th and 19th century historians, like Gibbon, saw Poitiers (Tours), as a landmark battle that marked the high tide of the Muslim advance into Europe.'"
Source: Battle of Tours

Why is this relevant to your comment?

To secularists like yourself, you apparently scoff at Christians & Muslims warring, but it saved Europe.

My God is better than your God...

Well, hey, we know if you could turn back the clock, you wouldn't see any difference between the Muslim god ruling Europe vs. the Christian God...but, hey, that's just your secular ignorance at work.

Merry Christmas!

Another religion war thread...

The mormon church is and has been conducting war with Christianity since the early 1830s. I wonder if dragnet2 is visiting mormon web sites and complaining to them about the ongoing war???

Perhaps dragnet2 would care to post a thread dedicated to the mormon religion regarding this so-called "religious war"?

It takes two sides to conduct a war, ya know.

Here is an example of the mormon activity in this battle:

From an earlier post by Colofornian:

"So if I wanted to summarize in a chart the message the Mormon church gives...in equating worldwide Christianity and the worldwide Christian church to similar status that the Muslims accord Christians (Islam labels us "infidels"; Mormonism calls us "apostates")...it would be thus:

Snapshot of Joseph Smith’s Slanderous Invectives vs. Christian Sects

Mormon Source

[Note: Most of these are Mormon ‘scriptures'. In fact, First three rows below are Lds 'scripture' & therefore cannot be rug-swept any more than a Jew might try to take three commandments off of the very tablets of stone Moses brought down from the mountain]
“...which of all the sects was right… must join NONE of them, for they were ALL WRONG… those professors were ALL CORRUPT…” Joseph Smith – History vv. 18-19. – Lds "scripture" Pearl of Great Price
...“which of all the sects was right…ALL their CREEDS were an ABOMINATION in his sight…they teach for doctrines the commandments of MEN…” Joseph Smith – History vv. 18-19. – Lds "scripture" Pearl of Great Price
Mormon church the only ‘Christ-sanctioned’ church on earth: “…the foundation of this [Mormon] church…the ONLY true and living church on the face of the whole earth” [Obvious ‘scorched earth’ implication: All other churches are false and dead] Lds “scripture” Doctrines & Covenants 1:30
Direct question asked of Joseph Smith: 'Will everybody be damned, but Mormons?" Answer from Lds "prophet" Joseph Smith: 'Yes, and a great portion of them, unless they repent, and work righteousness." Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 119 [Not “scripture” – but still publicly spoken by the Mormon ‘living prophet’ and published by a later Mormon ‘living prophet,’ Joseph Fielding Smith – via a publisher owned by the Mormon church – Deseret News Press, 1938]
“In 1952…the first official proselyting plan was sent to missionaries throughout the world…It included seven missionary discussions that emphasized…[four topics, one of them being]THE APOSTASY and Restoration…” [This makes it 60 years that Mormon church missionaries, now numbering 85,000, have formally emphasized in its training & door to door saturation a priority in bashing the worldwide Christian church as “apostates” (100% AWOL)] Our Heritage: A Brief History of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints p. 116, 1996

Another religion war thread. See, I was right...

So?

Is that a "breaking news" statement on your part?

Isn't that a bit like a reporter @ the battlefront saying, "another battlefield?"

What? You haven't heard of the song "Onward Christian Soldiers"? or of a group intentionally called "The Salvation Army?"

And where did the SA's name come from?

Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus... (2 Timothy 2, New Testament)

3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. " (2 Corinthians 10:3-5, New Testament)

..."I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people." (Jude 3, New Testament)

We live in a spiritual warfare-charged environment.

Defense of Mormonism?

I would not need to be a Jew, to be perturbed seeing Jews being attacked daily. They don’t hold every single every Christian view, right down the line.

Or a Hindu, a Buddhist, Native American religion, etc.

These anti-Mormon thread are not an attraction, but the posting tag team is blind to their own obsessions.

So then you do apparently think these Daily Obsessionals are an attraction?

Headline:

Truth seeker advises Jesus to 'tone down' his nightmare marketing campaign to Jews

Storyline:

Truth seeker heard two "recent" messages from Jesus and then offered his marketing consultant services to the man from Nazarene.

Truth seeker took a look at two of His messages, and simply began shaking his head in wonderment.

"C'mon, Jesus, do you really think these messages 'are an attraction?'"

Truth Seeker was referencing to these "recent" messages:

“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would do what Abraham did. 40 As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41 You are doing the works of your own father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.” 42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:39-44)

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. “Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called ‘Rabbi’ by others. 8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. 13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. 15 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are. 16 “Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.’ 17 You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred? 18 You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gift on the altar is bound by that oath.’ 19 You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? 20 Therefore, anyone who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21 And anyone who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it. 22 And anyone who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the one who sits on it. 23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. 25 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. 27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. 29 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous. 30 And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started! 33 “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? 34 Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. 35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation. (Matthew 23)

So why are YOU so attracted to them? LOL..you seem a little "obsessed" with what others are posting.

Why are you on this mormon thread lecturing others? Maybe you should go to LDS.org and jump in on some of the propaganda threads there and share your feelings.

FYI, most of the Flying Inmans have been posting on FR for six years or more and we haven't buckled to the criticism of those who are looking for an "attraction"....(that sounds SOOO liberal!)

We DO appreciate your bumping the thread and keeping it going so others can see it.
