In it, economic inequality features as one of the issues Francis is most concerned about. The 76-year-old pontiff calls for an overhaul of the financial system and warns that unequal distribution of wealth inevitably leads to violence.
"As long as the problems of the poor are not radically resolved by rejecting the absolute autonomy of markets and financial speculation and by attacking the structural causes of inequality, no solution will be found for the world's problems or, for that matter, to any problems," he wrote.
Denying this was simple populism, he called for action "beyond a simple welfare mentality" and added: "I beg the Lord to grant us more politicians who are genuinely disturbed by the state of society, the people, the lives of the poor."

Talk about a false dichotomies. Just because I am against governments ensuring citizens have healthcare does *not* mean I want them working against it. Do you suppose that, perhaps, things, even good things, actually happen without the government getting involved?
Promoting the general welfare does not equal to ensuring it is provided. (Really? I had to point this out?)
He said government leaders should work to “ensure” everyone had a good job, an education and healthcare. Ensuring (making sure or certain) does not equal promoting (supporting or actively encouraging). Pray tell, how would a government leader make certain (ensure) EVERYONE had health insurance? Why did he pick out government leaders and not business leaders?
Nice try, though.
Opps, responding to you, referring to MrRogers, post.
Sounds like he is more about Socialism than anything else. All of this humility he displays is seems to be a cover for his views on social justice.
Thats my take on what Ive read also. I believe we will see him working with those who advocate a one world governmet.
Tee hee hee! I love this Pope! Everything he says results in pure comedy gold!
Why? So they can by the power of the government *redistribute* the wealth?
Well, these statements from him just cemented my opinion of him.
I don't go for socialism demanded by religion, enforced by governments.
WWJS? Probably what the Holy Spirit breathed out in the NT. If a man will not work, he should not eat, and a man who does not provide for members of his own household, he is worse than an unbelievers.
You clearly either don’t know the definition of socialism, or didn’t hear what the Pope said. Socialism is a political philosophy that is carried out by Governments. I didn’t hear the Pope refer to Government as the means for helping the poor.
Really? He does here.
"I beg the Lord to grant us more politicians who are genuinely disturbed by the state of society, the people, the lives of the poor! It is vital that government leaders and financial leaders take heed and broaden their horizons, working to ensure that all citizens have dignified work, education and healthcare.
Interesting. But you forgot about the pervasive slavery. And yet why he wrote it is subject to varied interpretations, as is oftern the case with things Catholic, not just on our side.
Yes, at least.
We just had a sermon on the Tenth Commandment. Thou shalt covet is the core principle of Marxism. Marxist revolutions would go nowhere if everyone was content with their life, and content to improve their life only through honest work and earned reward. But Marxism thrives on envy. I think it is a central reason that Satan has used it to inflict so much evil on humans. It is a direct defiance of the law of God. I don’t believe most Marxists or Marxist sympathizers understand the extent to which they are being used as pawns in the greater spiritual struggle between God and Satan. This is a grudge match. There is no winning for Lucifer, so he strives to offend the honor of God as much as He can in the limited time He has.
Which is why the tenth commandment is the key. Covetousness is idolatry, in violation of the first and second commandments. It leads to lying and murder and disrespect and lust and all the other manifestations of evil, as the ends are used to justify the means. Covetousness is the anti-love principle, as directly opposed to God as anything can be.
This is the real reason, as has been widely observed, that Marxists are so often the most unhappy, unloving cranks. They live in this empty anti-love universe, where everything revolves around them, where everything and everyone that stirs up their envy becomes a subhuman object to be hated and destroyed.
Which is why it is so very dangerous for spiritual leaders of any faith to enable the envy by sanctioning the use of governmental force in fulfilling the lusts of these pseudo-collectivist cranks. Any such leader, I do not care who he is or how well intended he is, has played into the hands of the evil one when he encourages any government to supplant by force the role of personal, voluntary generosity. It is the conversion of a virtue into a vice, the opening of a portal into the deepest sewers of the human soul, and a great moral evil.
Things seem to be lining up now it seems.

Zactly.
“I didnt hear the Pope refer to Government as the means for helping the poor.”
No but he sure did help their argument by giving the tards
his support for redistributing other peoples hard earned
money. I think this guy is in with Obama on creating a state
religion. Why else would he be out there pushing Obama
talking points. If it were he would have been
talking about charity but he went straight Obama with his
redistribution bull.
Thats the third rail in this thread, right there.
No takers?
No amount of wealth redistribution can ever end poverty. Poverty isn't about money.
I totally agree.
The Pope should stop pushing his progressive opinion on the world.
