Revert Ping!
I realized priests were no closer to God than I
We’ve recently started going. My daughter asked me if we could go to church, and I started taking her to our local Catholic church. We just got back from our second Mass in two weeks.
My parents stopped going in 1963 or early ‘64. I’m not sure why; they had some sort of bad experience in our parish. It may have involved an elderly and somewhat authoritarian priest. It may have been related to some issue regarding me, or my educational track (I was in third grade at the time).
It was in the time period of the Kennedy assassination.
I returned when I discerned the Real Presence.
I have eaten Him today. Thanks be to God forever for this astonishing gift.
I didn’t go to mass for a couple of weeks and my life turned to cr@p!
The bishop has a men’s conference and sometimes we sit at a long table and talk about what happens when we don’t go.
The stories are not pretty.
There are many programs that Parishes can sponsor for Returning Catholics.
Landings is only one of them, and it didn’t fly in our vicariate at all.
My church has the most successful one “Catholics Can Come Home Again.” (Also the name of a book by Carrie Kemp.)
I helped when it first got started because I was so angry at God for taking my husband at the age of 48 and leaving me with five children, ages 9-19 to raise. Thank goodness for the Grace of God and a grief recovery program that kept me trucking ahead, rather than stopping completely.
+1 for truth.
My father was inactive Cathoic for lots of years until he marry my mom then he went back to Church
Reason is he left Cathoicism wasn’t really big in his household grew up yeah he was baptized went through first communioin but after I think after both my brother and I were born
He went back to Church
After noticing that her friends who prayed were able to cope with life better, she thought about going back to church...After 33 years away, she received the Eucharist for the first time on Christmas 2005...I cried all the way down the aisle...Beautiful post, Salvation. ♥
I left because through God’s grace I was regenerated and spiritually alive for the first time, so the things that impressed Priests and your average Catholic seemed small, petty, and dead to me. In fact, the Priests themselves were the walking dead, with only worldly notions of religion and spirituality in their heads.
In before the haytas ... :-)
(Seriously, nice post Salvation.)
Bingo and the pancake dinners?
Fish Fries! Everyone becomes a Catholic then!
I've noticed the priests from foreign lands like India have a much better grasp of what it means to be a Catholic and a Christian today. Sad.
Left because the popular culture said Church was un-cool and they coundn’t be bothered with it. Returned because they grew up and found they needed the Church.
I had a great aunt whose husband had a big fight with the Jesuits at Georgetown. I have no idea what it was about. But they both left the Church. Some years later, after his death, she went to see a priest about returning to the Church. He gave her such a hard time about having left in the first place that she never went back. What a creep! (The priest.)
Most of the ex-Catholics I’ve talked to over the years joined other churches because those churches don’t have sinners in them.
I needed Christ and salvation ... not church.
**Most of the ex-Catholics Ive talked to over the years joined other churches because those churches dont have sinners in them.**
That’s a falsehood for sure.
