(Romereports.com)(-ONLY VIDEO-) During his visit to Barcelona, Benedict XVI consecrated the city's famous 'Sagrada Familia.' Even though Masses are celebrated in the basilica, construction work is still going on. But now there's a way for visitors to see how Gaudi's masterpiece will look when it's all completed.
With just a simple click, this video gives people an inside look at just how the basilica will look. If everything goes as planned, the construction project will be completed in the year 2026, so 154 years after Gaudi began working on it.
The basilica's exterior is full of symbolism. There's a tower for every evangelist and one for every apostle. Above the rest, there are two other towers. One that represents the Virgin Mary and the other, standing at more than 550 feet, represents Jesus.
Wow. Building cathedrals is a multi-generational project even today, I see. I know that in the Middle Ages, the great cathedrals of England and France were often started by people who never even saw them take shape - but their grandchildren did, often using the same tools used by their grandparents.
Nice. Looks much better than I really expected.
Wonderful! Thanks for posting this. I visited ‘Sagrada Familia’ with my middle daughter just over two years ago and found it truly inspirational.
I always thought La Sagrada Familia was ugly. It seems that it will get worse!
Too many steeples/towers in the front. It would look better with just two.
Sometime after 2026 they'll be converted into minarets.
I remember studying this project in school 25 years ago. I didn’t think they would ever finish it. Still not sure they will.

Yeah, too many towers all over I think. About halfway through I thought “Hey, looks pretty good”. By the end of the video, I thought “Hey, it’s a bed of nails”.
I thought it was ugly from pictures but it really is beautiful when you see it in person and especially on the inside with the lights streaming through the stained glass.
That was exactly our opinion, too. In pictures, it looks like the sand piles kids make on the beach by dripping wet sand out of their hands. But in person, it is breathtakingly beautiful. We sat on benches in the park behind the cathedral drinking it in for 30 minutes or more.
Ely Abbey founded in 673 with the Cathedral main building taking 3 centuries to build starting in 1083.

This church is an Art Nouveau church. Read up on Art Nouveau and then you will know why it looks like it does. Art Nouveau was all the rage at the turn of the century. I love it myself, and saw Sagrada Familia when they were just beginning to really work on finishing it, about 1988. Barcelona has many fine examples of Art Nouveau architecture, including a park (I believe it is Guelle Park, or something close to that) on the outskirts of Barcelona, that has many features created by Gaudi. It is a delightful park. Our group leader (it was a college course followed by trip group) got us into a private home designed by Gaudi that was fascinating.
I must be the ONLY person that HATES what this Church looks like......especially the front.....I was very disappointed.
Well much better than the Our Lady of the Angels Cathredral in LA CA which looks like a giant box store.
Nice church buildings are good, but they are temporal structures...
Lots of workmanship put into this building...I wonder how God looks at it ?
.....But better the Our Lady of the Angels Cathredral in LA.
I wish my mom was still alive... she would have LOVED that comment!
