Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke said that Nancy Pelosi should be denied communion because her support of abortion is in conflict of her Catholic faith. He took particular issue with the minority leader’s refusal to comment on abortionist and murderer Kermit Gosnell because she said “as a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground” for her.

If the Roman Catholic Church wanted Pelosi to be denied communion, they have the means to bring about that result.

Thing is, the Dems would have NO SAY in what would be considered an internal Church issue.

They could say that he was using church law to punish a Democrat because she supported something that was legal under civil law. It is not something I would put past them. Democrats will tear down anyting to get even.

You're rigt BUT Pelosi seems to me to be exactly the sort of exception you mention given that she has publicly and clearly stated she believes exactly the same go along to get along, please everyone, “Christian Liberty” garbage the anti-Catholic crowd and the majority of churches other than Southern Baptists and Catholics preach these days.

She also goes on national tlevisioin shows and insists she is an orthodox Catholic who aboies by Church teaching.

Is this the same report as the article references because in this report it looks like Burke and I are in agreement ?

Nancy Pelosi banned from Catholic communion

Conservative Catholics -- both politically and religiously -- can now rejoice: due to her House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) longstanding support for abortion, she must be denied Communion under the law of the Catholic Church, said Chief Justice Cardinal Raymond Burke, head of the highest court at the Vatican.

Burke referenced Canon 915, a part of Canon law which states those Catholics who obstinately persevere “in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”

As Cardinal Burke noted, “[Pelosi] is a person who obstinately, after repeated admonitions, persists in a grave sin--cooperating with the crime of procured abortion--and still professes to be a devout Catholic.”

This comes after a June press conference where Pelosi was asked if there was a difference between abortion at 26 weeks, and the house of horrors that was the Philadelphia abortion clinic of Dr. Kermit Gosnell.

Pelosi's response: “As a practicing and respectful Catholic, this is sacred ground to me when we talk about this. I don’t think it should have anything to do with politics, and that’s where you’re taking it and I’m not going there.”

Pelosi also has a long history of supporting abortion and and has a 100% rating by NARAL Pro-Choice America. And it probably also doesn't help that she was involved in the creation of Obamacare, and the NHS mandate compelling all religions to pay for contraception, abortions, and sterilization methods, whether the religion allows them or not.

Cardinal Burke said, “This is a prime example of what Blessed John Paul II referred to as the situation of Catholics who have divorced their faith from their public life and therefore are not serving their brothers and sisters in the way that they must--in safeguarding and promoting the life of the innocent and defenseless unborn, in safeguarding and promoting the integrity of marriage and the family."

The cardinal continued: “To say that these are simply questions of Catholic faith which have no part in politics is just false and wrong. I fear for Congresswoman Pelosi if she does not come to understand how gravely in error she is.”

A well-versed friend says (more or less) that his position is like that of the chief justice of an almost supreme court.

CJ Roberts could (though one hopes he wouldn't) say that Zimmerman ought not to be allowed to own a gun. But it doesn't count for anything until the case makes its way to his court.

So unfortunately one has (I BELIEVE -- I don't know this stuff)to hope that
(1)the bishops of the diocese where she might want to present herself to receive would take some action; or
(2)the Holy Father who has "universal jurisdiction" (again, I'm just pretty sure that's true) would act.

The reason I think the Holy Father could is that he just defrocked and excommunicate a priest in Australia. So, a fortiori I would think he could slap an interdict on Pelosi and Sebelius. And I wish he would for the good of their souls and as consolation for those of us who approach the altar with Obamacare supporters fore and aft.

Those who point up Hitler’s Catholic origins are usually more interested in attacking the Catholic Church.

I’m not sure about the legal position here.

The person who would theoretically have to excommunicate her would be her bishop. The problem is that she’s sort of a hot potato.

She claims she’s under Cdl. Archbishop Wuerl, the famous pro-abortion, pro-gay bishop of DC. But she lives in San Francisco for electoral purposes, so her bishop would be Cordileone, who is definitely anti-abortion, anti-gay norming, and anti-everything-Nancy-bloviates-about.

I hope either that Cordileone will get empowered and do what he should do, or that the Vatican will simply override Wuerl (as they did with the bishop in Australia) and slap her with an excommunication. It might make her think, but if it doesn’t, obviously the warm and fuzzy non-confrontational approach isn’t working either. So maybe she’s just on her way to “the other place.”

The only way that could change is when and if, Cardinal Wuerl makes the decision to hand his paper in to retire. The next archbishop could very well be very much conservative.

Or Christianity in general. I see libs all the time trying to present Nazism as a Christian movement run by believing Christians. They can cite a few public pronouncements by Hitler in support of this, but anyone who has studied the issue knows that the Nazi leadership was radically anti-Christian, believing Christianity to be a "soft" religion irredeemably sullied by its Jewish origins. Public statements to the contrary were merely cynical attempts to mislead the German public, as when Obama pretends to be a Christian. (No, I don't think he's a Muslim, I think he's an agnostic/atheist.)
