Olivia Newton-John has had an exorcism at her house.
The 'Grease' star was rocked by the death of 41-year-old contractor Christopher Pariseletti on her property in August, so hired a Catholic priest to perform the ritual and cleanse it of bad spirits.
Olivia, 64, was joined by her husband, John Easterling, and a pair of friends during the ritual, where prayers were recited and holy water distributed around the home.
Christopher had worked on the property at the Jupiter Inlet Colony, Florida, and had a key. He is thought to have been in financial difficulty with his business facing closure, and had asked for a loan from Olivia to keep his company going. He killed himself with a shotgun by the pool while the property was empty and was found by another builder.
Olivia has been hoping to sell the house, and has had to slash $200,000 from the asking price after the incident.
A real estate agent told the Daily Express newspaper: "Unfortunately there is a grim notoriety to the house and people are put off by that.
"Whoever buys the home will always know that someone blew their brains out in there. It is not the nicest housewarming present."
Rosie O'Donnell had been ready to buy the property, but withdrew her offer in the wake of Christopher's death.
Other stars to have homes in Jupiter Inlet Colony include Kid Rock and Tiger Woods.

It is not unheard of to have a priest simply bless a house. The press, or Olivia, may have expanded it into an “exorcism.”

She might also try a “sage smudge”, basically burning some sage spice or leaves in a place where “the mood is bad”. It’s an old and well-honored American Indian custom, with no particular religious association, so it is inoffensive that way.Frankincense maybe, but not sage. It is not in line with Catholic teaching, anyway. A blessed St. Benedict's medal would be a good choice though.
Compared to some people just three years older than her, I'd say yes indeed!

I don't think any priest would do a house exorcism unless he had permission from his bishop. Any kind of exorcism is potentially dangerous business. They won't do it unless there are documented supernatural problems in the home involving demonic entities. And if the people who request this exorcism go on to be involved with the occult or engage in evil practices, the demon can come right back. So everybody has to absolutely abstain from any freelance engagement with demons: certainly you don't seek them out, even for the purpose of combating them.
I've only heard of this kind of exorcism happening once, witnessed by a friend of mine in Louisiana.
Before the house exorcism, they had to thoroughly search the house from top to bottom to be sure to remove any occult objects left there by previous occupants (Ouija boards, divination devices, tarot cards, satanic images or paraphernalia, sodomite porn, etc.)
This friend said the priest, who had fasted and gone to Confession in preparation, was very low-key, systematic and "workmanlike": nothing dramatic, much less cinematic; but everybody felt challenged by an oppressive presence before the unseen entities were forced by the Lord Jesus to abandon the place. Objective things were observed by everyone: things moving. His description seriously creeped me out.

What I’ve noticed about sage is more in line with a medicinal property, rather than a spiritual one. The whole family of herbs to which sage belongs has several members that are renowned for legitimate medicinal effects, including sage. The most potent is oregano.
It might create some confusion, that the means of ingestion, that is, inhaling a small amount of smoke, is different from how we typically consume herbs for a medicinal effect, but you are still after its physiological effects, not chasing away demons and evil spirits and stuff like that.
For that, you can consult a priest and get some Holy water and sacred salt, or whatever.
Bottom line: spiritually unhappy, see a priest; if you have an ingrown toenail, see a doctor. No conflict there.
You are correct. If it was a Catholic priest, he would have had to get special permission from the diocese and then some. Before a priest can do an exorcism there has to be a demonic presence in the house.
This was probably a blessing which priests can so anytime.
