What I’ve noticed about sage is more in line with a medicinal property, rather than a spiritual one. The whole family of herbs to which sage belongs has several members that are renowned for legitimate medicinal effects, including sage. The most potent is oregano.

It might create some confusion, that the means of ingestion, that is, inhaling a small amount of smoke, is different from how we typically consume herbs for a medicinal effect, but you are still after its physiological effects, not chasing away demons and evil spirits and stuff like that.

For that, you can consult a priest and get some Holy water and sacred salt, or whatever.

Bottom line: spiritually unhappy, see a priest; if you have an ingrown toenail, see a doctor. No conflict there.

Yes, I agree with you! Years ago, I purchased some sage once to burn (to cleanse our new turf of any bad vibes), and was corrected quite quickly by a stronger [more knowledgeable] Catholic than me. I then put up a St. Benedict medal over the door, and that made clearance. :)
