From our beloved friends at the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
holy cow...waiting for the popcorn emoticon. :)
Name them. Guess they were too busy with personal affairs, to attend their brother's crucifixion and console their mother.
Holy Mary, Mother of God..
Well, if you can get people to agree with the idea that she had other children, the possibility exists that one of them was gay, another might have been black, and a third might have been transgendered.
See? Even Jesus had family members that could be Obama’s son.
She might have had an abortion (or three) for all we know.
James is the only one named in scripture, but John 7 speaks of brothers plural.
... James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?".... The sisters, however, were not named here. The family was probably back in or around the family home, and did not make the trip to Jerusalem as Mary did.
Mortal Mary, Mother of Jesus. There fixed it for you.
"While He was still speaking to the multitudes, behold, His mother and brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him. And someone said to Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You."
Matthew 13:55
"Is not this the carpenters son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?"
Mark 6:2-3
"And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue; and the many listeners were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands? "Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?"
To name a few.
Thank you for caring, friend.
Bob, Marty & Francine.
It is obvious that Mary had children after Jesus was born.
You could have made this a caucus thread. It would have short and edifying. (Is there a rageboy emoticon?)
Will this work for you?
James, Jude, Joseph (Joses), and Simon. Jesus also had sisters, but they are not named.
I just spewed partially eaten popcorn all over my laptop!
Jude. He wrote the book of the same name.
Thank you for this post.
You apparently don’t even read your own stuff. You HAD the answer right in your posting.....in the NIV.
Here it is in the KJV:
Mark 6:2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?
Mark 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses (Joseph), and of Juda (Jude), and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
Those named were actually his half-siblings; same mother as Jesus, but different father; Joseph. The Epistle of JUDE was written by the half-brother Jude, mentioned in verse 3, above; and the JAMES mentioned wrote the Epistle of James.
The reason the siblings were not there for moral support on Good Friday was because they did not believe in Him. That didn’t happen until after His resurrection and they could no longer deny Him.
