FULL TITLE: Was the angel of Highway 19 the saint Padre Pio? Catholics suggest that the priest who's been dead for 45 years appeared at crash scene to bless and save life of teen victim
Five days on, the identity of the guardian angel priest of Missouri's Highway 19 remains as mysterious as his appearance on the roadside was miraculous.
Friends and family of Katie Lentz, along with rescue workers still want to thank the unidentified man whose prayers they credit with bestowing a supernatural calm as EMT's battled to cut the Illinois teen from her mangled car wreck.
But with no one coming forward to claim credit, and over 70 photographs of the crash scene yielding no images of the priest, some have suggested that the divine intervention of one of the Catholic Church's most beloved modern figures could have been at work.
Indeed, Carla Churchill Lentz, the mother of Katie said that her daughter's car was so twisted that rescuers said no one should have been able to survive.
'I do believe he certainly could have been an angel dressed in priest's attire because the Bible tells us there are angels among us.'
Some have speculated online that the priest could have been the Catholic Saint Padre Pio, who died in Italy 45 years ago.
He has a huge global following, with celebrities such Sophia Loren and the Italian Andrea Bocelli devoted to the humble man from San Giovanni Rotondo.

Padre Pio isn’t the only saint to have bi-located.
Why don’t people believe it was an angel?
That was my first taste of Wikipedia sabotage, and the first wikipedia entry which I corrected.
Or perhaps the delusions of someone in shock.
Good question. Maybe Catholics think they have a corner on the miracle market. I’m not even positve he was a priest. Voting angel here.
Is the girl that was in the accident Catholic?
Lot of people in shock, then, doc.
Here is a story of a bilocating Orthodox Elder who worked a similar miracle:

We DO have angels among us as well!!!!
Priest here. He had anointing oils and only a priest can give the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
But I still vote for an angel disguised as a priest.
I think people can imagine it being an angel..they do exist and are detailed throughout scripture.
but what strains belief is the thought people die and become angels to come back here...like a priest who died 45 years ago...
Those could be a good example of what the bible describes as a demon appearing as an angel of light... fatima comes to mind
Rescue workers saw the priest too. Doesn’t mean he actually was a priest, or an angel, but he seems to have done good.
The sketch done of him in the article looks like a serial killer or something. Unnatural computer-generated symmetry.
I don’t think it was a demon.
‘Was the angel of Highway 19 the saint Padre Pio?.......
Or perhaps the delusions of someone in shock.’
Did the Lentz girl take the 70 or so pictures mentioned? I don’t think so.
I don’t either...
Not true. Pastors of many denominations use annointing oil. Actually I think any elder/deacon in a Protestant church could do the same. Laying on of hands is what we call it.
Certianly could have been a priest, however.
“Why dont people believe it was an angel?”
Maybe it was a ghost. Or perhaps a mass delusion? Or a real priest that just got back in his car and waited for the road to open.
Or maybe it was an Angel sent to save the victim.
Does it matter? God works in mysterious ways his miracles to perform...
Regards,
GtG
Sadly, some people won’t believe even when it happens to them. They’ll rationalize it. When an angel appeared on the scene when I needed help I thought about looking up the paramedic to confirm there was indeed a “third” emergency medical worker present. Then I thought “Why am I looking for proof when I already know the truth?”
This is a fascinating article. Of the 70 photos taken, are there any of the firemen praying together? Who is/was the “drunk” driver who collided with her? Are there any photos of his/her vehicle?
Yes, I did read that the girl is Catholic.
