He died because he acted like the incarnate Son of God; spoke like the incarnate Son of God
What infuriated the establishment most were the claims to Lordship, the posture of authority, the exalted titles, the exercise of Messiahship, the presumed right to forgive, the way in which Jesus put himself in the center of Israels story, the delusions of grandeur, the acceptance of worship, and the audacity of man being God. Jesus did not die because the Jerusalem nasties couldnt stand a souped up incarnation of Sesame Street.

>>Among the many sweet sounding platitudes in our day, one I hear often, is that Jesus was killed for being exceedingly inclusive and kind. He was crucified for welcoming the outcasts, it is said. He was murdered for hanging out with prostitutes and half-breeds. He was killed because he was so courageously loving and his enemies just couldnt take it anymore.
I know a lot of people who don’t fully understand why he was crucified, but I don’t know anyone who thinks that he was killed for being nice.
If all of these thing were true, we would crucify a certain Muslim I know.
The crucifixion of Christ was in response to a populist outcry by the leaders within the Hebrew community, and Pontius Pilate was merely responding to what he believed was the majority opinion of the Jewish people. After all, wasn’t it all their idea? The Romans just supplied the muscle, the patriarchs actually were the ones who tried Christ and pronounced the sentence. The Romans went along to quiet what appeared to be a source of great unrest among the Hebrew people.
My preferred explanation is that he died because everyone, including myself, has sinned. My problem with other explanations is that one can start to blame a group of people for the crucifixion.
He upset the religious apple cart.
He explained it himself that they will hate you for his sake. You are the light of the world, which prefers darkness instead. They will use all kinds of excuses to kill you, making it sound noble or charitable, making it seem like they’re doing the right thing. But you have to be able to tell right from wrong, not as the world sees it but how God sees it. Evil always disguises itself as good, which is how it is able to trick so many. To those who are fooled by it, good can even appear evil, especially if it’s not immediately satisfying. There are so many who go to church, claim to believe in God, but will be so utterly fooled by the antichrist in their willingness to believe in good-seeming surface appearances.

They tell us that Major Hassan is a case of workplace violence, and an angry blogger with a DD214 is a terrorist. Our government pees on our heads and calls it rainwater. We don’t have the guts to crucify anyone. If we did, most of Congress would be hanging from trees right now.
He was crucified by the same laws he claimed to have created. The Jews were following their religious duties by executing him. To them, he was a blasphemer.
He threatened the existing power structure within the Jewish community (Sanhedrin) and the rank and file went merrily along.
An age old story that’s has happened since the beginning of time and continues to this very day.

If no one else on the planet had sinned but me, Christ would have died if it meant my possible redemption...is that too startling a claim? Then read his parable of the 99 sheep and of the missing sheep he would lay down his life to find!
Because he was a very naughty boy...
He didn't look at the bright side of life... (whistles)
They claimed he was a conspirator, a subverter. His only words of defense was that he did nothing in secret. Of course if he was really interested in defense he would have dismissed Judas, or left the place he knew they were looking for him, or fled the scene, or allowed his disciples to fight, or at least asked for mercy from the court. He did none of those obvious things anyone else would have done.
Remember the woman caught in adultery? Jesus said that whomever was sinless should throw the first stone at her. ALL dropped their stones and left. None were, nor are any today, nor will any in the future be sinless until He returns.
“They” crucified Christ because it was his pre-ordained destiny. God knew what he was doing when he put Jesus here.
Indeed. He was the “lamb slaim from the foundation of the world.”
Aint that the truth.
Jesus said that whomever was sinless should throw the first stone at her.
Whatever He wrote in the dirt dispelled a crowd of accusers.
