Purgatory is not a “second chance”. We are sanctified throughout our lives on earth by the blood of the lamb once we have accepted his freely given salvation. We were saved, we are being saved through Him.and we wil be saved By Him. Once dead we are either to heaven or to hell. Those condemned by their own deeds to help do not go through purgatory, there is no second chance unless God wishes. Those going to heaven undergo the final washing of their residual.sins. this is by the blood of the lamb. This is the final ‘step’ of sanctification, this is purgatory. You arrive fully purified in heaeven as no evil can be in His presence. In the state of purgatory you are not given chances, you are going to heaven not to help.

I have never thought that there was another chance after death, although from the discussion it appears that some people do,

As far as Purgatory itself goes, to quoote a famous atheist/scientist, I forget which one, “I do not need that hypotheses”. It is not in the Bible.

We are sanctified by the blood of Christ, not by suffering.
