Thomas Peters, aka. American Papist
July 13, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Thomas Peters, the well-known creator of the blog American Papist, as well as Media Director for the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), is in critical condition following an accident on Tuesday evening.
CatholicVote.com, where Peters' blog is hosted, broke the news on their Facebook page shortly after noon today.
"The entire team here at CatholicVote asks that you to pray for our dear friend, Thomas Peters," said the update.
"Thomas was involved in an accident yesterday evening and has sustained major injuries. He is awake, responsive, and in stable but critical condition. Family and friends are with him.
"Out of respect for Thomas and his family, we will share additional information as is appropriate.
"Please keep his recovery in your prayers."
UPDATE 2: From Thomas's dad:
Thom can move his arms, docs are discussing the best treatment for his neck injury. Immediate concern is for the considerable water in his lungs. We are astounded at the expressions of prayers and support. Thom & Nat know about it. Please keep them up. Love from us all, EdP.
UPDATE: Thomas' dad, canon lawyer Edward Peters, has posted the following message on Facebook:
Okay, I am sorry, but here’s some news.
Thomas Peters was seriously hurt in a swimming accident Tuesday evening. He fractured his 5th cervical vert. and is at Univ. Maryland Medical Center (Baltimore). Natalie Zmuda Peters is there, and the moms Angela & Becky Z flew out a couple hours ago. He moved an arm on command and is undergoing more tests. He has responded pretty well to the immediate steps taken for him so far. I will stay in touch here. Your prayers and well wishes are deeply appreciated.
Prayer ping!
Oh dear. Prayers for him! I hope they keep us updated.
Prayers up for this fine young man’s complete recovery!
One of the good guys. He takes a lot of heat on twitter. Prayer bump!
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be......
Lord, be with him.
Prayers for him and his family.
Prayers going up.
I pray for his complete healing. May God watch over him, Amen.
In 1981 my father was working construction and fell from the scaffolding he was working on 30 feet onto his head. He broke his 5th cervical vertebra (the same as Mr. Peters).
After he was brought to the hospital he was examined and x-rayed and left alone for awhile pending the results. He was in a panic. He was, obviously, concerned about his health and that his family would not eat if he wasn’t working.
In the midst of this panic he heard what he describes as an audible voice telling him to relax, that everything was taken care of. He immediately relaxed and despite the broken neck he was home 12 days later. He was back to work in just about 1 year, with no serious lasting effects. Although he was nominally raised as a Catholic, he had never allowed God into his heart. He is now an usher, CCD teacher, 4th degree knight and just all around jack of all trades at his parish. He knows that God took care of him (and us) that day.
I hope Mr. Peters has as good of an outcome as my dad. He’ll have my prayers.
Great story and a great blessing for your dad and your family.
Thank you for sharing this story! Trust in the Lord!
Praying now for Thomas and his family.
Asking for the intercession of JPII.
Prayers for his health and a speedy recovery.
"Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
Thanks for sharing that story!
Prayers sent for miraculous healing.
