LDS seminary teacher charged with burglary, theft of prescription drugs

ROOSEVELT — A man responsible for teaching religious education classes to LDS high school students is facing criminal charges after investigators say he burglarized a home on a Sunday afternoon to steal prescription painkillers.

Brian Dean Thacker was charged Wednesday in 8th District Court with burglary, a second-degree felony, theft, a class B misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor.

On May 26, Thacker entered a home about 2 p.m. and took Lortab from a medicine cabinet, according to Duchesne County sheriff's detective Dela Rowley.

A woman was upstairs in the home at the time and heard Thacker moving around downstairs, Rowley said. She waited until Thacker left and then looked out the window and recognized him, the detective said.

Thacker, 42, was interviewed after the incident was reported to the sheriff's office. He corroborated the woman's account of what happened and admitted to taking Lortab from the home, Rowley said.

Thacker served as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seminary teacher for Union High School during the 2012-13 academic year. Prior to that, he was the seminary teacher for LDS students at Altamont High School.

"The church expects the highest level of conduct from its seminary teachers," LDS Church spokeswoman Ruth Todd said. "Brian Thacker is on administrative leave."

So far investigators do not believe Thacker was using prescription painkillers while teaching seminary classes or soliciting medication from his students, Rowley said.

Thacker has entered an inpatient drug treatment program. His first court appearance is set for June 27.

I’m Superior; I can lie with impunity

That's was my first lesson in Mormonism as it confirmed what I saw, heard and read. Satan is the master of lies/liars.

You’re a hideous narrow-minded bigot

Hmmm. Where did I just read I have a closed mind? Yep, what's taught is in their heart and comes out of their mouth!

They throw tomatoes and rotten fruit. And guess what? Our Missionaries know that this is persecution for the sake of serving our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ.
_______________________________________________

How would they know that ???

this was typical treatment for criminals in stocks ...

real persecution is whan the Mormons massacre unarmed men, women, children and babes-in-arms from wagon trains at Mountain Meadow just because the people are Christians and not Mormons...

Those same people were thirsty too...

they would have welcomed some water...

but that was the price for not serving the Mormon gods and Joey Smith...

But we CLEARLY give MORMONs a chance to defend their RELIGION.

As does Pelosi, also while expressing her benevolence.

Oh, aye. Indeed I do.

Like most others at FreeRepublic, I enjoy being informed, especially about those desirous to bring harm to me, my own, my neighbors, and my country.

You pretend to know an awful lot about Mormons. What's the attraction?

You back on the deceived ones, and not the theology?

Of course; the theology cannot be defended while hollering PERSECUTION!!!gets you a LOT of street cred on the perimeter of Temple Square.

Say D13...

Do YOU have a Temple Recommend?

Pretend?

How can YOU make a judgement like that, if you know very little about the religion?

And the ATTRACTION?

I would have to say that it's a rich field in which to sow the TRUE gospel of Jesus Christ - not the FALSE one the LDS presents to the world.

Did you?!! Pelosi says the same thing.

The 'Rev' Al Sharpton says Mormons are not real Christians.
Nancy Pelosi, and svcw, say she is Catholic.

Your company is articulate, educated, and accomplished.

I remember something Fr. Dwight Longnecker once said about GK Chesterton:

“He said he knew the Catholic Church was for him because when he left his umbrella at the back of the Methodist Church it was still there, but when he left it at the back of the Catholic Church it was stolen.”

I’m not a Mormon. I don’t believe that the LDS organization is the true church of Jesus Christ. As a devout Catholic, I believe it is the Catholic Church that Jesus founded. I don’t believe much of Mormon theology, sociology, or cosmology. In fact, as a devout Catholic, I don’t even believe the LDS organization can be identified theologically as Christian.

Nonetheless, it seems that the LDS organization has one thing in common with the Catholic Church - in it, you will find both “saints and sinners.”

Clearly, there are many at FreeRepublic that do not approve of Mormons; that preach that Mormon are blasphemous, heretical hypocrites.

OH?

IMHO, most MORMONs on these threads are merely deceived by the cunning that is LDS.

There are VERY few that actually KNOW what a corrupt system their chosen religion is.

And, once again, it is MormonISM that gets the spotlight shown on it.

You sound like the other poster; yet, can't give me my words that claim that. Monkey see, monkey do? You are worried about Pelosi/others hurting you while I'm here to warn others about the destiny those choose unknowingly.

I enjoy being informed, especially about those desirous to bring harm to me, my own, my neighbors, and my country.

What good has 'your being informed' done? What's the results? How is she harming you and your own? Are you taking her to court for something with your fountain of knowledge about her? Or is it so you can emulate her?

THE
DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
SECTION 89

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Kirtland, Ohio, February 27, 1833. HC 1: 327–329. As a consequence of the early brethren using tobacco in their meetings, the Prophet was led to ponder upon the matter; consequently he inquired of the Lord concerning it. This revelation, known as the Word of Wisdom, was the result. The first three verses were originally written as an inspired introduction and description by the Prophet.

1–9, Use of wine, strong drinks, tobacco, and hot drinks proscribed; 10–17, Herbs, fruits, flesh, and grain are ordained for the use of man and of animals; 18–21, Obedience to gospel law, including the Word of Wisdom, brings temporal and spiritual blessings.

  1 A aWord OF Wisdom, for the benefit of the council of high priests, assembled in Kirtland, and the church, and also the saints in Zion—
  2 To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the aword of wisdom, showing forth the order and bwill of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days—
  3 Given for a principle with apromise, adapted to the capacity of the bweak and the weakest of all csaints, who are or can be called saints.
  4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of aevils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of bconspiring men in the last days, I have cwarned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation—
  5 That inasmuch as any man adrinketh bwine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him.
  6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, apure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make.
  7 And, again, astrong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies.
  8 And again, tobacco is not for the abody, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill.
  9 And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly.
  10 And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome aherbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—
  11 Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with aprudence and bthanksgiving.
  12 Yea, aflesh also of bbeasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used csparingly;
  13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be aused, only in times of winter, or of cold, or bfamine.
  14 All agrain is ordained for the use of man and of beasts, to be the staff of life, not only for man but for the beasts of the field, and the fowls of heaven, and all wild animals that run or creep on the earth;
  15 And athese hath God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger.
  16 All grain is good for the afood of man; as also the bfruit of the vine; that which yieldeth fruit, whether in the ground or above the ground—
  17 Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain.
  18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, ashall receive bhealth in their navel and marrow to their bones;
  19 And shall afind bwisdom and great ctreasures of dknowledge, even hidden treasures;
  20 And shall arun and not be bweary, and shall walk and not faint.
  21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the adestroying angel shall bpass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen.
