ROOSEVELT A man responsible for teaching religious education classes to LDS high school students is facing criminal charges after investigators say he burglarized a home on a Sunday afternoon to steal prescription painkillers.
Brian Dean Thacker was charged Wednesday in 8th District Court with burglary, a second-degree felony, theft, a class B misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor.
On May 26, Thacker entered a home about 2 p.m. and took Lortab from a medicine cabinet, according to Duchesne County sheriff's detective Dela Rowley.
A woman was upstairs in the home at the time and heard Thacker moving around downstairs, Rowley said. She waited until Thacker left and then looked out the window and recognized him, the detective said.
Thacker, 42, was interviewed after the incident was reported to the sheriff's office. He corroborated the woman's account of what happened and admitted to taking Lortab from the home, Rowley said.
Thacker served as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seminary teacher for Union High School during the 2012-13 academic year. Prior to that, he was the seminary teacher for LDS students at Altamont High School.
"The church expects the highest level of conduct from its seminary teachers," LDS Church spokeswoman Ruth Todd said. "Brian Thacker is on administrative leave."
So far investigators do not believe Thacker was using prescription painkillers while teaching seminary classes or soliciting medication from his students, Rowley said.
Thacker has entered an inpatient drug treatment program. His first court appearance is set for June 27.
No; I'm afraid I do not know. However; there are several of our fellow Freepers that maintain an extensive data base of information on Mormons. Perhaps they could be of help to us.
Similarly, I have no idea how many Catholics, Floridians, or florists have prevented thefts. My money is on gun owners.
I am not a Mormon, a Catholic, a Floridian, a Mavericks fan, or a florist. Thanks for your interest.
This is also the testimony of a LOT of folks who have met a 'few' of them.
(You might need a little salt...)

Pretty interesting poster. Where might I find more information about its author?
I notice that it is footnoted "Semi-Official creed of the EXclusive club of Freeper Flying Inmans".
Do you know who that is, and where I may find out more about them?
Any help is appreciated.
“I notice that it is footnoted “Semi-Official creed of the EXclusive club of Freeper Flying Inmans” .

Right here; of course.
Stay tuned and/or search the archives...
I can give a list of previously active MORMON apologist that post on FR. You could ask THEM if any of the statements are untrue; but whenever I ping them to something that might interest them, they either IGNORE the ping or get REALLLY huffy about it!
Right, teppe?
Right District13??
Yeah...
We don't have a LIST of Rules like the MORMON missionaries do.
US? I didn't ask something that is impossible to know. Even the mormons couldn't answer it.
However; there are several of our fellow Freepers that maintain an extensive data base of information on Mormons
Then you are to thank them if you learned something and not ask them something no one can know. You asked the same question how many did they prevent on another mormon thread the same day about rapes.
Intimidation and control are tactics of satan - which he uses in all 'man made teachings' religions which they are all obeying satan. He fulfilled his wish where he has people bowing to him instead of Jesus.
“It is simply not possible that no Mormon is decent enough to stop a crime given the chance. The few I have met were exceptionally honorable.”
We had one run for President, and he was as duplicitous as his religion when it comes to revising his history and dealing with his Christian conservative opponents. The LDS have made thousands of changes to their holy writ, allegedly written down perfect the first time, so it’s no surprise that Mittens was always rewriting his own history too.
"Now the way he translated was he put the urim and thummim into his hat and Darkned his Eyes than he would take a sentance and it would apper in Brite Roman Letters. Then he would tell the writer and he would write it. Then that would go away the next sentance would Come and so on. But if it was not Spelt rite it would not go away till it was rite, so we see it was marvelous. Thus was the hol [whole] translated."---Joseph Knight's journal.
"In writing for your father I frequently wrote day after day, often sitting at the table close by him, he sitting with his face buried in his hat, with the stone in it, and dictating hour after hour with nothing between us."
(History of the RLDS Church, 8 vols.(Independence, Missouri: Herald House,1951),"Last Testimony of Sister Emma [Smith Bidamon]," 3:356.
"I, as well as all of my father's family, Smith's wife, Oliver Cowdery and Martin Harris, were present during the translation. . . . He [Joseph Smith] did not use the plates in translation."
---(David Whitmer,as published in the "Kansas City Journal," June 5, 1881,and reprinted in the RLDS "Journal of History", vol. 8, (1910), pp. 299-300.
In an 1885 interview, Zenas H. Gurley, then the editor of the RLDS Saints Herald, asked Whitmer if Joseph had used his "Peep stone" to do the translation. Whitmer replied:
"... he used a stone called a "Seers stone," the "Interpreters" having been taken away from him because of transgression. The "Interpreters" were taken from Joseph after he allowed Martin Harris to carry away the 116 pages of Ms [manuscript] of the Book of Mormon as a punishment, but he was allowed to go on and translate by use of a "Seers stone" which he had, and which he placed in a hat into which he buried his face, stating to me and others that the original character appeared upon parchment and under it the translation in English."
"Martin Harris related an incident that occurred during the time that he wrote that portion of the translation of the Book of Mormon which he was favored to write direct from the mouth of the Prophet Joseph Smith. He said that the Prophet possessed a seer stone, by which he was enabled to translate as well as from the Urim and Thummim, and for convenience he then used the seer stone, Martin explained the translation as follows: By aid of the seer stone, sentences would appear and were read by the Prophet and written by Martin and when finished he would say 'Written,' and if correctly written that sentence would disappear and another appear in its place, but if not written correctly it remained until corrected, so that the translation was just as it was engraven on the plates, precisely in the language then used."
(Edward Stevenson, "One of the Three Witnesses,"reprinted from Deseret News, 30 Nov. 1881in Millennial Star, 44 (6 Feb. 1882): 86-87.)
In 1879, Michael Morse, Emma Smith's brother-in-law, stated:"When Joseph was translating the Book of Mormon [I] had occasion more than once to go into his immediate presence, and saw him engaged at his work of translation. The mode of procedure consisted in Joseph's placing the Seer Stone in the crown of a hat, then putting his face into the hat, so as to entirely cover his face, resting his elbows upon his knees, and then dictating word after word, while the scribes Emma, John Whitmer, O. Cowdery, or some other wrote it down."
(W.W. Blair interview with Michael Morse,Saints Herald, vol. 26, no. 12June 15, 1879, pp. 190-91.)
Joseph Smith's brother William also testified to the "face in the hat" version:"The manner in which this was done was by looking into the Urim and Thummim, which was placed in a hat to exclude the light, (the plates lying near by covered up), and reading off the translation, which appeared in the stone by the power of God"("A New Witness for Christ in America,"Francis W. Kirkham, 2:417.)
"The manner in which he pretended to read and interpret was the same manner as when he looked for the money-diggers, with the stone in his hat, while the book of plates were at the same time hid in the woods."---Isaac Hale (Emma Smith's father's) affidavit, 1834.
“What does it matter if the perp is LDS, Baptist, Catholic or Orthodox Jew? The story is about a burglary.”
Because if it’s a Mormon - oh boy - the anti Mormonism freepers can have a field day!!
“It is simply not possible that no Mormon is decent enough to stop a crime given the chance. The few I have met were exceptionally honorable.”
I am a Mormon and the Mormons I know are all decent, God fearing, Jesus loving, family oriented every day folk. I don’t know why we are so loathed on this site. Anyway, thank you for your input.
“Never associate inappropriately with anyone of the opposite sex (conversely, they don’t mention whether or not it is against the rules to associate inappropriately with anyone of the same sex).”
Please do not change the rules to suit your own agenda. Homosexual behavior is not tolerated. Period - and you know it.
I do. Fundies cannot tolerate anyone who dares to interpret the Scripture some other way than they do, which is to say at least 30,000 different ways for each of their sects, and hundreds of millions different ways for each one of them, since part of their dogma is personal interpretation trumps all. Therefore, the Mormons and the Catholics are despised, snake charmers, Harold Campings, Jim Joneses, the Crouches, the Bakkers, various Marjoes and the preacher cousins of Jerry Lee Lewis are revered.
Elsie’s rules in post #28 are for LDS Missionaries who are volunteers and who devote 2 years (for men) 18 months (for women). They volunteer for the love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to bless everyone they come in contact with. The rules are to help the Missionaries stay true and faithful. I don’t know why some people want to make fun of them.
“He fulfilled his wish where he has people bowing to him instead of Jesus.”
Jesus Christ is my Savior. He is everything to me. You have a false idea about Mormons. It’s not much fun being told that I worship satan, the father of all lies. But it’s a free country. Question: Would you say that about Jews or Catholics? Of course not, but for some reason it’s OK - even politically correct - to dump on Mormons. Whatever. I’ve heard it all. I’ve been harassed by the loudest, meanest, most obnoxious anti MormonISM people on earth. And our Missionaries are harassed and tormented during their volunteer missions. One Sister Missionary had a bucket of water dumped on her. They throw tomatoes and rotten fruit. And guess what? Our Missionaries know that this is persecution for the sake of serving our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ. So bring it on!!!!!!!!!! We rejoice and love our Savior even more.
Think about it. The guy they wrote about in the article is a thief - misdemeanor, no less - but that’s not what they are concentrating on. They just live to point out that he is a Mormon. Any Mormon is fair game. Nothing is off limits, no matter how vile.
Anyway, thank you for your comments.
