(CNN) – For Southern Baptist pastor Tim Reed, it was Scripture versus the Scouts.
“God’s word explicitly says homosexuality is a choice, a sin,” said Reed, pastor of First Baptist Church of Gravel Ridge in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
So when the Boy Scouts of America voted to lift its ban on openly gay youths on May 24, Reed said the church had no choice but to cut its charter with Troop 542.
“It’s not a hate thing here,” Reed told CNN affiliate Fox 16. “It’s a moral stance we must take as a Southern Baptist church.”
Southern Baptist leaders say Reed is not alone.
Baptist churches sponsor nearly 4,000 Scout units representing more than 100,000 youths, according to the Boy Scouts of America.
That number could drop precipitously.
The Southern Baptist Convention, the country’s largest Protestant denomination, will soon urge its 45,000 congregations and 16 million members to cut ties with the Scouts, according to church leaders.
The denomination will vote on nonbinding but influential resolutions during a convention June 11-12 in Houston.
“There’s a 100% chance that there will be a resolution about disaffiliation at the convention,” said Richard Land, the longtime head of the Southern Baptists’ Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, “and a 100% chance that 99% of people will vote for it.”
“Southern Baptists are going to be leaving the Boy Scouts en masse,” Land continued.

Once people are given alternatives as new scout groups are formed, they will rush to the new organizations. The new scout groups should be about local values not big corporate or big politics or big media values. The Boy Scouts were formed at a time when Americans had Christian values that went unchallenged, they had no way of guessing that hell would unlease all of its insanity on us. We have learned a valuable lesson about what happens when people have a collectivist thinking as lose their own inate ability to reason.

Why did the Scouts have to have Fortune 500 sponsorship, anyway? Is camping equipment that expensive?
In a short period of time they will be forcing Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts to have gay promoting literature such as “Kingand King”, the book about a boy who liked to wear skirts etc. Just let your imagination go wild, and you can be sure the gays will take it there. They hate God’s morality, they are against all bounderies—they are nuts.
Have you heard Mark Levin denoucing the corporatists? He says that the Republican Party is not about principles but serves the interests of the corporatists. Corporatists do not believe in anything except money, not God or country or even free enterprise, they only believe in their bottom line. The BSA has joined up with amoral corporatists. The corporatists played along with Christian values and patriotism when it wasn’t challenged but now that the extreme left is attacking all of our institutions with a vengeance, they cave in because they do not believe in anything.
Did the Boy Scouts in your area teach American history and the Constitution?
They don’t have to have a “Fortune 500” sponsor. My troop has had two different chartering organizations in the past five years, and neither of them has given our troop a penny.
It’s a BSA requirement for each troop to have a Chartering organization. To some troops that’s little more than a formality (hassle). Other troops do get financial support from their Chartering org. There’s no requirement that these organizations provide financial support to their troop.

I think I would counsel using a different organization for the boys under my care but at the same time retaining one’s membership in the BSA. The objective would be to keep that organization in contant turmoil, so it cannot be presented as some sterling program for boys.
IOW, I’d keep the wrecking ball operating within that organization. I’d want it to look unwholesome.
And, in the same way as the left always does, some conservatives should be sleepers in the hierarchy awaiting the day when they are in a position to steal the show back.
I know this sounds like just another nutcase conspiracy theory, but it makes no sense for the people in charge to be securing corporate sponsorships by doing what they know will reduce the BSA to a shell of what it is now. It's already far smaller than it once was yet rather than keeping the people that fill the ranks and do the grunt work on their side they're clearly working toward some other goal.
There's no way, again IMHO, that they'd be doing this unless they have a plan for filling the ranks again and know they're going to have plenty of help doing it.
I think a lot more than their caving in to political correct pressure and queers is at work.
It bears watching.

Bishop Romney has pushed for homosexualizing the Boy Scouts and the military for almost twenty years.
Is that why you are so upset that so many Catholics did not vote for him?

Catholics vote for abortion and the homosexual agenda they want Obama, not a write in, not a third party, not the GOP, they want the most effective pro-abortion/pro-homosexual party there is, the democrat party.
