"Homoousios is a word that tells us that when Jesus said, The Father and I are one. he meant exactly that.
Arius would not use the term because he interpreted the term to be a figure of speech.
He and his followers did not think that Jesus was God Incarnate." John 17:11:*
"I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you.
Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one."

*Elsie wanted to see more biblical quotations... ;-)Thanks! One can never get too much of the Word.
One can, however, get too little.

(Heck is where people, who don't believe in Gosh, think they are not going...)

The use of the term is a consequence of the theological discussions of the time. Arius was like the modernists of our own times, and like them he was hardly original in that he found the traditional view of Jesus to be too fundmentalist. Homoousios in effect, as used by the Council, codified that fundamentalist view.
