Memorial Day - May 27, 2013
Recently you repented and did what is right in my sight:
Each of you proclaimed freedom to your own people.
You even made a covenant before me in the house that bears my Name.
Jeremiah 34:15 (NIV)

Heavenly Father
As Memorial Day approaches, may we be grateful for all the veterans and for those who serve to preserve our freedoms. May we remember our spiritual heritage and its cost of blood and treasure.
Bless all our heroes who put themselves in harms way to serve and protect others. Give healing and comfort for all our wounded warriors. Sustain their families, who also serve and sacrifice.
As scandals come to light, may all the rotten fruits of sin that were hidden and covered up be revealed. May we no longer be deceived and love lies that tickle our ears, but wake up to see the corruption about us and in us. As a nation, may we repent of our sins against You and turn our hearts to seek Your face.
May revival break out in our land as we turn back to the Word of God as our gold standard and moral compass. May the power of Your Spirit equip us to put on all the spiritual armor to fight the spiritual enemy in high places. May You give us victory in pulling down strongholds set against You and Your people.
We ask for Your grace and Your tender mercies, Father, for America and our countrymen.
In Jesus precious Name,
Amen

Remembering and thanking all who have served, on this Memorial Day weekend. May He protect and keep you and this land that we love, always.
A BIG Amen to your Prayer (And Wonderful Pictures!) Today!
May all the people of this nation turn to the one and only true God and reject the idols of this world. May our youth see that what the world offers is empty and meaningless and seek out God and His truth. We thank God for those who are and have sacrificed so much for our nation. May God comfort the family and friends of those who have paid the ultimate price for our country. Amen.
For many Americans, Memorial Day exclusively connotes the beginning of summer, the end of school, trips to the beach, river or lake and, of course, barbecue. Americans like Memorial Day; we all covet time off to relax and be with friends. Memorial Day, however, when fully considered, means more than time off and fun. It is a time to remember our freedoms and the lives spent to establish and defend those freedoms and those who paid the ultimate price...
The Fallen Soldier's Table
Those who have served and those currently serving the uniformed services of the
United States are ever mindful that the sweetness of enduring peace has always been
tainted by the bitterness of personnel sacrifice.
They are compelled to never forget that while we enjoy our daily pleasures, others
who have endured and may still be enduring the agonies of pain and internment.
Before we begin our activities this evening, we will pause to recognize our POW’s and
MIA’s.
We call your attention to this small table, which occupies a place of dignity and honor
near the head table, It is set for one symbolizing the fact that members of our armed
forces are missing from our ranks, they are refereed to as POW’s and MIA’s.
We call them comrades, They are unable to be with their loved ones and families
tonight, so we join together to pay humble tribute to them, and bear witness to their
continued absence.
This table, set for one, is small, symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner alone
against his or her suppressors.
The tablecloth is white, the purity of their intentions to respond to their country's call
to arms.
The single red rose in the vase, signifies the blood they may have shed in sacrifice to
ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America.
This rose also reminds us of the family and friends of our missing comrades who
keep the faith, while awaiting their return.
The yellow ribbon on the vase represents the yellow ribbons worn on the lapels of
the thousands who demand with unyielding determination a proper accounting of our
comrades who are not among us tonight.
A slice of lemon on the napkin reminds us of their bitter fate.
The salt sprinkled on the plate reminds us of the countless fallen tears of families as
they wait.
The glass is inverted - they cannot toast with us this night,
The chair is empty-they are not here.
The candle is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to
illuminate their way home from their captors, to the open arms of a grateful
nation.
Let us pray to the supreme commander that all our comrades will be back within our
ranks.
Let us remember and never forget their sacrifices.
May God forever watch over them and protect them and their families.
During high school, my closest friend and I took a pair of horses out for an afternoon ride. We slowly roamed through fields of wildflowers and wooded groves. But when we nosed the horses in the direction of the barn, they took off toward home like twin rockets. Our equine friends knew that it was time for dinner and a good brushing, and they could hardly wait.
As Christians, our true home is heaven (Phil. 3:20). Yet sometimes our desires tether us to the here and now. We enjoy Gods good giftsmarriage, children, grandchildren, travel, careers, friends. At the same time, the Bible challenges us to focus on things above (Col. 3:1-2). Things above may include the unseen benefits of heaven: Gods enduring presence (Rev. 22:3-5), unending rest (Heb. 4:9), and an everlasting inheritance (1 Peter 1:4).
Recently I read, Believers desire the heavenly inheritance; and the stronger the faith is, the more fervent [the desire]. Several Old Testament believers mentioned in Hebrews 11 had strong faith in God that enabled them to embrace His promises before receiving them (v.13). One such promise was heaven. If we too put our faith in God, He will give us a desire for that heavenly country (v.16) and will loosen our grip on this world.
